Yogurt and Pumpkin, Gas x ? I have read several posts on here where people have used plain yougurt and pumpkin to help with their yokies tummy problems. My yorkie has a tight bloated belly and i think most of it is gas, i can hear his belly gurgling from across the room. Can anyone tell me how much yogurt and pumpkin is ok for a 12 lb yorkie and also does anyone know if it is okay to give simethicone(gasx) in small doseages. |
I wouldnt give gasx unless your vet says its okay |
What kind of food his he eating? You could just give him a teaspoon of the plain canned pumpkin. |
He was put on purina EN in hopes that it would help his GI tract, and we have just left him on it. He seems to be bloated and gassy, so i have added pumpkin and yogurt. i just want to be sure this is okay for him. i also read somewhere where you can give a quarter tab of simethicone, but i cant find anyone to tell me for sure if this is all ok |
What were the symptoms of the GI problems? Did you notice any bloating before the food switch? About a teaspoon of canned pumpkin should be fine and maybe about a tablespoon of yogurt. Bloating can be normal (Ellie bloats occasionally, especially on other dog's food) but be careful. This can lead to gastric dilatation - volvulus. It is very rare in Yorkies though. |
Something I recently discovered was that when I gave Toto a little piece of pepermint candy cane it helped his tummy. He just discovered candy over Christmas . Why is it that people like to give sweets to pets,(not me, guests)now I have a candy crazed dog. If he thinks I have a candy or a Tums he goes nutty. |
He has been bloated for a long time, his abdomen is just always so tight, and i think it has to be gas. It dosent really matter what food i put him on, it is still bloated. I can hear it grumbling from across the room, i have talked to four vets and none of them will suggest anything. |
My vet suggested infant gas drops when Miko was a pup and had trouble with gas...Not GAS X... You might call your vet and find out if the infant gas drops would be helpful in your dog's situation and how much you should give. |
