my yorkie has stones
 
took him to the vet-- he has 2 stones right in his uretha- put him on prescription c/d food. he has to have surgery wed. my gosh the bill today was 200-- and the sergery is around 700 depending how long they keep him has anyone ever been thru this with your baby? they need to give us pet lovers a break---

I know it's alot of $ - but they must have this procedure done :(

I just asked a member Yorkieluv to give you some advice b/c she has gone thorugh it. I do know that reading her posts, she was able to get Miko her Yorkie to stop producing stones by adding 1 tablespsoon of FRESH celery juice everyday ontop of his food. She will explain better, but she isn't online right now.

i just wonder if it should cost that much--? thats all- have you ever heard of c/d precrip.food by hills? thanks for your reply--

I have no idea about costs, as I am in NY and we are up to approx. $8000 in Vet bills so far.

sorry your little guy has stones.

The c/d food right now is useless because your vet does not know what kind of stones your dog is producing. When he gets the stones out make sure he sends them to the lab for analysis. The price you quoted for the surgery seems right, and is probably on the low end of the spectrum. i wouldn't expect anything less.

Yes she is 1/2 Yorkie and 1/2 Maltese.

If the Vet told you to feed a special food, than that's what I would do :(

I know that my Grandpa's cat, Squeek, went through some urinary mineral build-up (I don't think it was full stones but a build up in the urethra) and since the second occurance in a year Squeek's been on prescription cat food (pretty sure it's Hills) to break down minerals and prevent stones or further build up. He's been on it for at least 3 years and the problem hasn't returned.

So I do know that the presciption food should help in the future. Good luck with the surgery, sorry I don't know anything further.

every little bit of input is great when issues come up-- i have a sheltie and a pomeranian nobody ever has any vet bills but my rossy- poor baby-- i luv him to death.. thanks again.

Hi My Little Yorkie Male Mickey had this major surgery 2 times now with in six months apart. The first time it cost us about 1,400.00 and the second time was much cheaper, but I think it cost more the first time because he kept trying to push the stones back with a cathidor sp? but after 3 times they decided to do xrays plus the lab fees and xrays was all included. Make sure they send his stones off to find out what kind they are so that you will have the right prescription food for those stones. My little boy had the calcium oxalateand stones. he is on U/D prescription food. you also want to make sure they give him pain meds and antibiotics after his surgery, he will need those. a male can not pass stones like a female can the get stuck in the uretha because of the way their penis is shaped. if a female gets a big stone they wont be able to pass it either.

Also put him on bottled water, Thats what we are now doing.
Im so sorry hes going through all this, Ill be keeping him in my prayers.
