Cooked onions poisonous too? Quick question... I left a bowl with reminents of beef stew and my baby ate it! I mean licked the bowl clean! There were onions in it, I don't mean little tiny pieces, I mean good size pieces of onion! They were cooked though for many many hours in the crockpot. Do you think he will get sick? I know onions are toxic to dogs, but if they are cooked are they still toxic? I am keeping an eye on him and he seems fine. This happened about 3 hours ago. Do you think id know by now? The worst part is, we got a foot of snow today and Im not even plowed out by my condos, so if I had to rush to the vet I have no idea how Id get there :( |
Oh boy..scary being stuck there and worried about your baby...I can't tell you for sure about the onions, but I know Gus has had some before and Luckily? never gotten sick!! Hope someone else helps with your question.. |
http://www.vetinfo4dogs.com/dtoxin.h...s%20and%20cats This vet is saying maybe a cup or more. That is for maybe a medium-sized dog. I would be concerned. |
In my opinion an onion is an onion. I would just keep a look out and make sure your baby doesn't get sick, if so, then I would contact a vet. I am not sure if you should induce vomiting maybe someone would know if that could be a good idea for you. Good luck I hope your baby doesn't get sick:) |

Oh crap, that is scarey! He luckily did not eat close to a cup maybe 3 pieces about an inch in diameter. I will keep an eye on him and if anything happens bring him immediately to the vet, sadly I work full time though so hopefully nothing happens while Im at work, it does say 5 days to show symptoms. I dont think he ate enough, but you never know! Hes only 5.5lbs. GGGRRRR Im always soooo careful!!! :( |
One of those sites says toxic effects can show when they eat 0.5% of their body weight in onion. So maybe do the math on that one and go from there. |
reading those I feel a bit better! I dont think he ate enough to hurt him, also it says that its mainly repeated feedings that hurt them, unless they eat a massive amount at one time, then symptoms usually show up 2 hours or so. I think we are good! Still going to keep an eye on him, but they are plowing us out now so I should be all set if I need to leave. Dexter does seem fine though, he was just running around and playing like a nut with Fletcher :) |

Hi! Dex appears fine. He did throw up once last night, but remained active, energetic and he ate, drank and went to the bathroom fine. He seemed fine this morning also when I left for work. PHEW! Gotta make sure I put things HIGH up and away from them from now on. Little bratfaces! Thanks everyone! |
