Has Anyone Ever Used This?
 

Maggy May is doing lots better than she was when we got her but our vet suggested NOT switching her food right now to avoid any digestive problems. I had to do something today though and as usual, it's always after our vet has closed for the weekend. Anyhow, when we first got her, my hubby ran and got some puppy food, purina puppy chow. Not a good dog food, but it's what we feed out boxer because for some odd reason, it's the ONLY food he doesn't react to. Anyhow, so he got the purina puppy chow and Maggy was eating it ok. Well today she decided she didn't want it any longer, and having a small breed dog and her only being 9 weeks old, I know enough that she can't skip meals like that. I forced her all I could to eat some of it, but I can't force her like that all the time, she DOESN'T like it and I can't say I blame her. So, this evening, the hubby and I want out and I tried to pick her out a good puppy food. What I ended up deciding on was Natures Best, chicken and brown rice dinner (puppy formula) By Science Diet. Has anyone ever used it? If so, what has been your experience? I have started giving Maggy and Luke some of this, I'm mixing it in with the Purina little by little over a week until I have them all switched over. The problem is, they are rooting through the food and picking out the pieces of the Natures Best and still won't eat the Purina. I can't just switch them over all at once, I have to do it slowly. In the meantime, I'm worried that their sugar will go low cause they aren't wanting to eat the other food and I'm tryin my hardest to FORCE them to eat it.

science diet food is no better then the purina ingredient wise. Most people here feed wellness, solid gold, canidae, chicken soup, innova or nature's variety. THese foods cannot be found in a petco or petsmart, and definitely not in a supermarket.

i know boxers have huge skin issues so if he's not having any problems with the purina then keep him on it. As for your yorkie pup, i'd give her a better option.

Although I hate Science Diet this food doesn't look THAT bad. I don't know if I would want to give a Yorkie pork fat though.

Could you chopped the food as fine as possible (food processor) so they can't pick around it?

I've used Wellness before, the super 5 mix puppy food, it was a great food, I loved ingredients, however, my boxer wouldn't touch it with a ten foot poll, lol. I had went through so many dog foods trying to find a good one that he could eat, but the only one he didn't have a reaction to was a holistic dog food called Royal Canine (I believe that's what it was, it was some years ago.) Anyhow, after about a month on it, he started breaking out all over again. I finally started looking at some of the cheaper not so good dog foods and tried Purina. I hated having to give it to him but he's been on it for about 6 or 7 years now and does great, no reactions what so ever to it, so my theory is, if it aint broke, don't fix it. He does great on it and I won't be messin with that at all. Although it isn't what I'd choose to have him on, it's what he tolerates so I stick with it. As for the ingredients in the Natures Best, I think the ingredients are better than the Purina, here's the Ingredients of both, I've been doing some comparisons tonight online and at the store.

I had read up on the Chicken Soup For The Soul dog food and wanted to get that tonight, unfortunately, they didn't have it there. I'll have to talk to my vet and see if they sell it there. Thanks for your input though, it's very much appreciated.

Well, when I mixed it with the Purina tonight, I had soaked it and it wasn't completely soft yet, that's why they were able to pick it out. It's completely soaked now though so the next feeding they shouldn't be able to do that. Oh God, PORK FAT! CRAP! What was I thinkin? Dogs have trouble digesting PORK, why in the world didn't that register in my brain when I read the ingredients on the bag??? Well, looks like this is going back to the store first thing in the AM! Thanks for pointing that out to me, I really do appreciate it. I had done so much research on dog foods when Isaiah was a pup and I know pork isn't good for dogs, I can't believe I over looked that. I'll see if I can find that Chicken Soup for the soul anywhere.

I don't have a big problem giving dogs pork but plain pork fat seems odd (it's like opening a container of lard for your dog:p ). It is probably fine though. I would also be nervous that the wheat and soy could cause an allergy. I'm impressed for this being SD though. Usually their kibbles are horrible.

Ya, I totally agree. I can't believe I purchased a Science Diet product myself, when I researched it when Isaiah was a baby, I couldn't believe the products ingredients myself and couldn't understand why people swore by it. When Ir ead the ingredients on the bag tonight though, specially compared to some of the others, I though, well, this isn't THAT bad compared to a lot of the others. I really wanted to the Chicken Soup For The Soul Though. I just went to their site and did a search on where I can get it around here and low and behold. I can get it in one minutes driving distance from my house, it's right up at the pharmacy I go to, YAYYYY! So, I'll be getting up bright and early in the AM and taking this back and going and getting the Chicken Soup For the Soul.
