Dog foods I have been researching dog foods for when it is time to switch lily from puppy to dog and was wondering if there is any one food that is best for her. She is very picky. Is it really better to give her yorkie specific food or is that just an advertising scam. :D Also what age is best to switch, my vet said between 8 and 12 months but most dog foods say 1+years. |
There is no general answer for that question. What is best of one dog may not be the best option for the next. It may be that a combination of foods is best. Take your time and research and decided which one is best for YOUR dog. Supplement the diet as needed. If you call of visit the sites of most dog food companies, they will send you free samples to try out. There is a sticky here on YT w/ that info: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76518 It's best if you can talk with a canine nutritionist or a vet who is well versed in nutrition. I would suggest also visiting the follwing site for links for more helpful info on your quest to find the non-existant perfect diet: http://www.consumersearch.com/www/fa...d/reviews.html They also explore the options of raw feeding and home cooking. (Some are a little one sided though.) Just remember that they are ALL based only on someone's opinion, so take that for what it's worth. :) |
I was feeding both of my babies Canidae, however, I have an EXTREMELY picky eater as well - my Stedman. He actually started losing weight and looking way too skinny while on the Canidae because he wasn't eating it well....OBVIOUSLY he didn't like it  So, I decided to switch them back over to Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul. They both eat this very, very well (although my Tatum will eat anything you stick in her mouth lol) - so, we are sticking with this ;) By the way, I just thought I'd add - that even though it is called Chicken Soup for the "Puppy" Lovers Soul, it is actually an All Life Stages food, so you can feed it for life, no matter what age :) |

Oh i am so glad to read this... I have email Them for a sample of there puppy food and they answered me back very quickly to let me know they would love too... I did the same with Canidae i also heard this was a well kown brand for our lil ones.. But i have still not heard from them.. So sofar looks like Chicken Soup is winning my vote... Hope my baby likes it!!:D |
I also feed Jeter Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul kibble. He loves it. I tried Canidae with him but he did not like it at all. |
There is no one best food. I prefer homecooked. It is okay to switch at 8 months to a year. And the Yorkie diets I have seen are not good. Be careful with Royal Canin. It causes a lot of problmes in some dogs. |
