Too much protein?? Okay, we have noticed Koda is peeing and pooping larger amounts then he usually does. I remember reading somewhere that too much protein in there deit may cause this. We are feeding him Innova Puppy Dry food, here are the Ingrediants: Turkey, Chicken, Chicken Meal, Ground Barley, Ground Brown Rice, Cottage Cheese, Tomatoes, Sunflower Oil, Chicken Fat, Natural Flavors, Flaxseed, Potatoes, Herring, Apples, Carrots, Alfalfa Sprouts, Egg, Garlic, Chicory Root Extract, Direct-fed Microbials, Vitamins/Minerals Reveiws: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_f...duct=154&cat=3 We love this brand because it doesn't have any fillers, and Koda seems to love the taste. Could it be possible that it has too much protein? If so then what should I which to? My feed store does sell Canidae.. Or am I just over-worried, and this is normal? If it matters Koda is almost 2 pounds and he turned 12 weeks on saturday.. |
26% isn't really that much protein but I guess he could be sensitive to the food. |
He's still growing, so pooping and peeing habits will change as his system matures. Also, "excess" poo is more likely caused by carbs and fillers than by protein - so I kinda doubt it's that. He could be allergic to barley - but you aren't really describing allergies. What are you giving for chews/treats - could it be that? Also, is the Innova diff. than what the breeder was giving before you got him? If yes, he could still be transitioning. |
The breeder was feeding Science Diet, and we weaned him off of it within a few days. Did we wean him off of it to quickly? As far as treats we give him tiny amounts of cheese, apple, cheerios and peanut butter. He's very picky when it comes to treats/snacks. We tried store bought treats, he doesn't have any interest in them that much. |

I would stop the cheese for now. I also don't give peanut butter. I used to then I found out how bad hydrogenated oil is (and pb is made with crisco and that is made with hydrogenated oil). If I gave it at all I would give natural pb but that is salty and fattening...so, I don't give it (my opinion only). |
Last week I was feeling sick in the morning, so I gave Zoey and Chloe 1/2 C each of Canidae. (They usually eat home cooked.) They bothed pood 4X that day. Usually they go twice. It increased size and frequency X 4. Zoey even poo'd off the pad which she never does. It was horrible. I used to give the Canidae to graze, but Zoey and Chloe will eat just to spite each other, and Zoey was getting fat. No more dry dog food for us, even Canidae. |
Okay, thanks for the great advise.  |
