when do puppies ears stand up? My Little Bits ears don't stand up and he is 11 weeks old. He is the smallest boy from a litter of 7. We did loose one shortly after birth. Little bit also had to be hand fed. He is thriving wonderfully, looks beautiful, and spoiled to no end. All my yorkies ears stand up but his. Is this normal? I love him just the way he is but I'm curious no less.:woof: |
Some take awhile, some never stand up. Gracie still had one down at about 4 months. I taped it for 24 hours and it has been up ever since. Holly had one down at 12 weeks. I taped it for a couple of days and it has been up ever since. However, the other one goes up and down as it wants. It is so funny. Just give it some time and if it does not come up on its own you can always tape it, but I wouldn't wait much past 4 months. Others may have different opinions. |
My breeder told me if you don't tape it, the cartilage would grow bent so i taped Sadie's ear and in a few days it was up and so far so good.... Sadie is only 12 weeks old now. We drew a heart on the tape to make it pretty while we had to tape it!:D :D |
good post i have a question too what do i tape to it? and how i don't wanna pull her hair... I was told if i trim around her ears then they will stand up.. I'm trin to wait until she has all her shots before getting her groomed and im to scared to trim her my self i don't wanna hurt her |

she is just about 11wks.. do you think i should wait until after her first groom? and if they don't stand up try it? or will it be tolate at 14weeks? |
You are probably fine to wait if you want to. My vet said the longer after 4 months, the less likely the ears will stand up. My vet also did not like the idea of taping. She thought it might hurt when the tape is removed. I never had that problem with my girls! |
Tessa's stood up when she was about 13 -14wks old. I wanted them to stay down 'cause I thought it looked so cute:( |
I used the cloth medical tape on Sadie. After a day or so the tape came right off... it did'nt hurt. i didn't let her sleep at night with the tape because I was afraid she would eat it! Just cut some tape that can go behind the ear and bring the two flaps around to the front and tape one side then the other... Like a square! I found that worked best. I taped the ear flat, I didn't roll it like a taco. use the medical cloth tape... it works really well. my breeder swears by eyelash glue and cardboard! She did this when we picked Sadie up, but it hurt coming off and the glue was hard to get off... I didnt like this way and don't really recommend it. |
1 Attachment(s) Thanks for the advice, I'll look into more info on ear taping...Here is a new picture of my little Bit. |
I never taped but when I brought Soleil home I shaved her ears down (its sooo easy!!) 1/2 way and as soon as I was done they stood RIGHT up...I was amazed..they never went down again after that and I shave their ears regularly...Whal makes an awesome trimmer that is perfect for ears and its really inexpensive..I got mine at Walmart!! Good luck!! Dawn |
Guinness' doesn't stand up either. Do any of you have a picture of how to tape it? Or a pic of your little one with the tape? I'm such a visual person, it would help me greatly :) thanks |
Exactly how do I shave his ears? I haven't done this with Daisy or Molly. |
CM stood up at 5 or 6 weeks no problem but Jasmine have been up and down, when they are teething can can do that, I would shave them down 1/3 off the ear and then bend them like a taco and tape them up for 4 to 5 days, thats what I had to do with Jazzie's, but now they are up, but leave them up for aleast 4 to 5 days, and if they start going down do it again:) |
