Please help.... Can anyone, who has had experience with liver shunt, give me some info on it? My 11 wk old yorkie has had vomiting and diarriah and we are not sure if it is the Science Diet food that she has been eating or liver shunt. Please give me symptoms if available so I can see if she is having any of those. Thank you. :aimeeyork |
Hi...here is a link to a site that explains liver shunt and it's symptoms...I hope it helps you and I hope your baby is o.k. http://www.yorkielane.com/Health/livershunt.htm |
The first thing I would do is get her off the Science Diet, it is a horrible food. Try Canidae or Solid Gold Wee Bits. Usually a puppy with a liver shunt is a very picky eater, they fail to gain weight and act very lethargic at times. If your puppy has vomiting and diarrhea it could be any number of things, some of which could be very serious. You can give a little honey and water for the vomiting and a little canned pumpkin for the diarrhea. If she starts acting lethargic or dehydrated the you should get her to the vets immediately. |
Liver shunt...... We don't know for sure that it is a liver shunt. She had a vomiting episode and had to be hospitalized to get IV fluids and was put on meds and had one episode of diarreah this morning. All together, I have had her about 3 weeks. Her first visit to the vet the doctor took her off of Bill Jac ( the breeder had her on that) and put her on the Science Diet. About 5 days later is when she started vomiting that put her in the hospital for fear of dehydration. That was New Years Eve. She hasn't had vomiting since and this morning had diarreah and yesterday the vet told me to start easing her back on the Science Diet. Is that a coincidence? You seem to know what you are talking about. The emergency hospital she was at put her on a feline canned food that she seems to do very well with. |
