Is Having their teeth cleaned risky? Kassie is scheduled to have her teeth cleaned and a lump removed from the top of her head. My question is can this be risky, she will be ten in July and had them done four years ago.. The lump on her head is not cancerous just some type of growth that she keeps having to have drained. She was supposed to go this morning but had to be rebooked for friday as we got hit with another foot of snow. Thanks in advance and Happy New Year to all. |
The older you get in years does get more risky with anesthesia. My sister's yorkie Zippy is 15 and just had a dental, with no complications afterwards. On previous dentals he also had lumps on his body that were removed, turned out they were benign. It all really depends on your vet and the anesthesiologist. |
Thanks grayxie.....my vet is really good I totally trust her. It is the most expensive place around here but also the only place I would entrust with my babies. I am still really nervous because Kassie is getting up there in age. Thanks again for your response . |
It's not as risky as NOT having them cleaned if they really do need it....:) |
I was worried sick as well when Bunny got her teeth cleaned. She was 2 years old at the time. She did fine and bounced right back.I think it's important to have a really good Vet and also one your baby feels comfortable with.Best wishes!:) :) :) |
Having a Yorkie put under is always risky. I had one die as a result of teeth cleaning and this was a very knowledgable vet and one I have used for 25 years. It happens. And yes, I was a chicken sh*t with my first 2 yorkies. I never had their teeth cleaned for fear that they would never wake up. They both lived to be 15 years old and never had problems except they did lose quite a few teeth. Dont mean to scare you, just thought you should know. |
