Help! Blood in stool Bentley has had soft stools today and he acts like he's not feeling well. It's gotten worse where it's pretty loose. Late this afternoon I noticed that it has blood in it. I'm due to leave out of town in the morning and called my vet 30 minutes before they left the office for the day. I explained what was going on with him and they didn't have an opening and 2 of the vets had already left for the day. The remaining vet told me to come on in and get some antibiotics to start him on. But I'm very worried...I'm scared. What would cause him to have bloody stool? Any ideas? Will he be ok???? |
when this happened to rosie the vet told me that were they have a upset tummy they can scratch the linning of there tum and causes bloody stools, when there pups it can be anything that causes it eating things they shouldnt IE eating plants, rosie had to eat small amount of chicken and loads of water, but i did take her to the vet just incase it was something nasty that needed attention. wendy and rosie :rose: |
Annie had the same problem once... Vet said she must have just gotten into something she shouldn't have... Carpet, paper etc... I was really surprised myself cause she hasn gotten into things she shouldn't plenty of times and usually its just vomitting or diarhea. But this one time it was really bloody stools. So I was really worried. But he gave her some antibiotics and then she was fine... So I hope that is all that is wrong with Bentley. I bet he will be back to himself tomorrow! :) |
Lexy had blood in her stools when she had worms! Yuck!!!! It was easily treated though! |
Does it look like fresh blood? Or is black and tarry looking? I've been led to believe that if it is blackish that the bleeding is typically in the stomach or intestines and if it is bright red then it is closer to the exit area. The vet can give you a medication that can coat the digestive lining that will stop any bleeding him might have. His symptoms sound similar to Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis which the main symptom is usually an onset of bloody diarrhea in a dog that hasn't had any other health issues. Both of my dogs got this recently and instead of the diarrhea they both had blood in their vomit. Antibiotics will likely treat whatever the problem might be. I hope he feels better! (I just noticed that Lady Montava on SM was responding to you, she was a great help to me when my two were sick. :) |
Im so sorry that Bentley is sick. I hope he gets better soon. Please take him to the vet as soon as possible. Maybe he only needs some antibiotics. Please keep us posted. |
thanks..I'm very worried about him, also worried Mia will get it. Yes, I posted on SM too and I'm waiting for advice there as well. He really feels bad. |
I'd keep them seperated because Pixie infected Tuffy back when they both got sick. It was pretty scary..I was pulling my hair out and the vets were totally useless here.. it took forever for me to get them the treatment they needed. Good luck with him! |
Brenda - no help here but I want to say I REALLY hope Bently is OK !! I've read that this can happen and sometimes no one knows why - but I know how you are with your babies - and I know you're very worried - Please keep us posted and give that gorgeous Bently a big hug from Chanel and Cheri - I hope he feels better ! |
Brenda I hope he is ok!! I have been thinking about him today. If the antibiotics do not clear it up in a day or so I would take him to the vet at the lake. I know you are more than capable of making the best decisions but I wish you werent leaving so we would know if he is alright. Dawn |
Dawn, If he hasn't improved by morning I'll delay my leaving until I can get him in to see our vet. Hopefully this anitbiotic will kick in before morning. I'll let you know before I head out. |
