Dewclaw growing back??? Has anyone experienced your Yorkies dewclaw growing back? It seems that Moose's is growing back on his left front leg. We have an appt with our vet next Friday. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this happening.:animal-pa |
My best friend has a yorkie who regrew one of his dewclaws. When the dewclaws are removed, all the tissue must be removed or it is possible for one to regrow. That's why it's important for whoever is removing the dewclaws to know what they are doing. |

I don't know so much about them regrowing, by my Kiwi (rescue) still has hers (as a side note, her tail is also docked really badly) but she has all her dewclaws and does just fine with them. If I were you, I would rather he keep the dewclaw than go under anesthesia again, unless it's really not to your liking then I would wait until maybe he has to go under for teeth cleaning or something in the future and get two birds with one stone. Good luck! |
Apollo grew one of his back also, when he was neuterd i had it removed ! |
Wow never heard of this one but Linda keep us posted on what the vet recommends. I totally understand you not wanting to put Moose under again...it's always scary when our little ones go under. You can always take care of it if down the road if Moose needs teeth out or something...but if this dewclaw doesn't bother you or Moose and you keep the short...I wouldn't worry about it. I'd go with what the vet recommends.:animal-pa |
You know, that is funny that you asked this. Beamer has also grown one of his back. The vet removed them at 4 days old and just recently I noticed it is grown back. He is almost 9 months old now. I planned to ask the vet about it next time he needs to see her. I really don't think he had it at 6 months when he was nuetered. |
Well, they definitely CAN grow back very easily...several of mine have one or two that are back in...I just cut them all the way down to the skin whenever I trim their nails, and there's really no problems. |
