TurtleDove | 12-26-2007 07:48 PM | Post-Spay ~ Preventing Licking/Scratching Ariel will be getting spayed one week from today, and I am in search of something that will prevent her from licking/scratching her stitches.
When we got Belle spayed, we used the surgical cone that the vet gave us, but she kept wiggling her head out of it and started to lick her stitches. A man at Petsmart told me to put her collar through the holes of the cone (instead of using the string the vet gave), and this prevented her from licking her wounds. BUT, she found another way to get to the stitches by using her hind legs to scratch at it. It got to the point where she actually started bleeding from doing this. We had to keep an eye on her at all times when she was awake, and thankfully she recovered with no scars.
I don't want to go through all this again with Ariel, so my question is ... What did you use on your baby to prevent him/her from scratching/licking their post-spay/neuter stitches?
I was thinking of using a onesie, but she's around 3.5 pounds...I'm not sure they make them that small. |
