Lil' Miss is Scheduled for her spay Well I finally did it....stopped at her vet's this evening and she is scheduled to go in and get spayed on Friday, Jan 4, 2008. I am now sitting here in tears about this,:cry8: :cry8: :cry8: She is my baby and I hate the thought of her being put under and having any pain....my vet did help reasure me a bit by letting me know that she will come home with a collar on and some pain pills and that she will probably be a bit groggy/sore for a day or two and probably sleep alot....I will be home with her so that I can monitor her and then 10 days after the surgery I will take her back in to have the staples removed....I guess I just need to hear from those of you who have had you babies spayed and to hear that all went well with them. Please pray for her.....I know it's early, but prayer never hurts....Thank you everyone... __________________ |
Chloe just had her spay yesterday, and your vet is right they pretty much sleep the first day. I haven't left her side all day because I'm afraid she may try to jump on the furniture or do something that may rip open her stiches. Luckily she doesn't have staples. The vet stiched her up internally so we don't have to go back and have them removed. I'm not sure why vets use different methods to stich them up. |
I know my vet told me that he uses staples cuz that way there is no chance of her chewing on them....Sending prayers to your baby for a quick recovery.... |
They bounce back so fast you won't believe it! I have a boy & a girl and both of them acted like nothing happened the next day. I did give them the pain meds as prescribed, though. Neither one of mine liked the plastic collar. Infact, Max acted like a wild Mustang so his came off immediately! Mia is more mild mannered but didn't like it so I had her wear those Onesies. Both were fine - no infections. I had to bathe Max before the 2 weeks were up and I still didn't have any problems. Good Luck to you both and try not to worry too much! Staples are horrible. Ellie got about 20 of them and two twisted. They had to be yanked out and I heard her scream from the back area of the vet's office.:( I hate them and I think the only good reason to use them is to get out of surgery fast (and Ellie had a long surgery and she had to get her teeth cleaned after so it was faster to use them). We used a onesie for her also. The vet said it would be fine. She fit in the newborn (she wiggled out of the neck of the bigger size) but they weren't long enough so an extension had to be sewn on. Please just make sure they aren't too loose in the back legs or they will find a way to lick the incision. |

I saw pictures of some spayed yorkies that had staples to close the incision on here...it looked aweful. I wouldn't allow staples for my dog unless there was an emergency and she needed to be closed up fast for some reason. THey have to be really painful to remove too. |

Her incision was 4 inches long. Someone else on YT had her dog spayed not too long ago and they used staples. The vet had to yank a couple of hers also. Ellie's incision in okay but she has a whole bunch of lumps underneath (scar tissue) and I'm not convinced it will ever go away. I am just glad she is okay though. Since she had been under for a spay and a liver biopsy, the vet may have wanted to close fast. I really don't know. I didn't talk to her about it before the spay because for one I didn't think of it and I really do trust her judgment so whatever worked for her and kept Ellie safe is fine with me. Maybe just run it by your vet. They can still gnaw at their staples. They still need a onesie or e-collar. |
