narrowed it down..would love ur SUGGESTIONS! Avery has been on Canidae(all life stages)dry dog food.. since she came home with us when she was just a puppy:)). Now she is 9months old(which i cant believe:eek: time has flown by!!:)) ANYWAYS.. i really really like this food(which is why i chose to give her this one in the first place)..but she has always been kinda up and down with her eating habits(and how much she seemed to be liking the food) The last big bag we bought..she started her 'not so into it' phase...and is now back to seeming like she has NO PROBLEM with the food AT ALL!!!!! i have not heard any consistent complaints about the food..EXCEPT for stories that are similar to ours!! ?? so i dont know if she just doesnt like the food..but is so used to it that it doesnt really phase her!? OR maybe it was that she was teething, when it was at its PEAK of her not wanting to eat the food?! who knows.. its almost time for us to buy some more food for her..and i am wanting to try something new! i have researched some foods..that are on the "same level" as Candiae..and there is a pretty wide selection at the Feed Store, where we buy our food! i was just curious..if anyone has been in the same situation and have had success with switching to a healthy, all natural, premium food?! Once again, i have done my reseach!,(which does include going over the site that gives the 'star ratings' and compares the different foods-not to mention searching the threads on here, many other sites, etc. etc. etc.);) ..But i wanted feedback from some of you!(i know there are SOOO many, on here, that REALLY care about what you are feeding ur lil ones-and i really respect ur opinions & appreciate them so much!!) ..i do know that MANY of you are VERY happy with home cooking and also with feeding RAW. (i have looked over these..and have always saved many sites, etc. 'just incase')but as of right now, it's not the way i want to go(not saying that they dont seem great for alot of people or even that we may try it in the future!?:)) BUT for now..i want to stick with Free Feeding, a natural, high quality, dry food! It works so well for us..and i know Avery likes it too(she has always done so well with it)..and like i said it just works!;) thanks in advance for your help..i look forward to hearing what you all have to say!! :) |
P.S. sorry its so long! geez Meg! :p haha. |
I feed my Yorkie Eagle Pack Holistic Select. It is sometimes very difficult to get and may have to be special ordered by your local store. You can go online and check it out at eaglepack.com Good luck!! |
I feed Wellness |
I feed Wellness too and it's worked great for us. Simon has a sensitive tummy but both he and Hallie like the food and we haven't had any problems with it. |
Sounds like taste is an issue - so I'd highly recommend Orijen - I think it's the best kibble out there and their nutrition philosophy is AWESOME. Check out their white paper: http://www.championpetfoods.com/orij...hite_paper.pdf Other good ones would be Innova EVO, Natures Variety Instinct, Evangers, Wellness, Cal. Natural. I feed NV's raw medallions now - but I hear their kibble is really great - and the ingredients look wonderful too! :D |
Maybe the problem was that she was teething. Why not try another small bag of Canidae and feed on a schedule instead of free feeding and see how it goes. It's my understanding that free feeding makes some dogs finicky about eating. |
I don't think you have to settle on just one. It seems like a really good idea to switch it every 4-6 months so your dog doesn't get so bored and so they aren't eating the exact same thing everyday of their lives. I think eating the same thing all the time is a good way to develop an allergy. How about something like Innova for 4 months and then slowly switch to Wellness for a few months... |
Zoey eats home cooked with Canidae to graze on. She never really cared for it, she would just pick until... Chloe came! Now they fight over it like it is the best food in the world. I had to stop leaving it down all day because they would just eat and eat. So, the solution to your problem is very easy. Buy Avery a sister!!!! |
I feed my Yorkies Canidae (all stages) also but they do get bored so I switch it around. Right now they are on the Canidae Lamb and Rice and they love it. I also like Chicken Soup For The Pet Lover's Soul. Their ingredients are similar to the Canidae. I have read several reports that say it is best to switch dog food periodically to prevent allergies. I know I would not want to eat the same food day after day. Solid Gold and Fromm are also good foods to rotate with. Sometimes dogs just naturally go off their feed every now and then so unless she is really underweight I would not worry too much. |

yeah..and thats how she is!! she eats great, and when she is hungry..but there are times where she is just so 'eh' about her food.(i think, like you and a couple others have said, it IS a good idea to change it up every so often anyways! ;)) But she isnt underweight, so i dont have to worry about that!!:) |
