presciption diet My Brittany had a bladder stone removed a year ago,the vet put her on hills cd presciption food. Now she has a food allergy to the diet, bumps on her skin.He wants to put her on antibiotics 1 week every month.Does anyone know of other diets for this condition.weight control is also an issue,I am at my wits end on what to feed her. |
diet My guy has food allergies.. look into Wellness Simple Solutions.. one Carb one protein.. |
Hmmm, this could be tough. When none of the prescription foods for liver issues would work well for us, we went to homecooking. I don't think it's healthy to have a dog on antibiotic one week for every month. I would most definately talk to a nutrtionist and homecook. They will look at all her needs and create a diet just for her. |
What kind of prescription food did they have your baby on for the bladder stone? There may be other foods that are more appropriate for her considering her allergies? How do you know it's food allergies? |
They had her on hills C/d.The vet says it is a food allergy.I am not sure how he knows that. |

This is what the dry kibble contains: Ground Whole Grain Corn, Pork Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), Chicken By-Product Meal, Soybean Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Soybean Mill Run, Chicken Liver Flavor, Calcium Sulfate, Soybean Oil, Flaxseed, Iodized Salt, L-Lysine, Choline Chloride, Dicalcium Phosphate, Vitamin E Supplement, vitamins (L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 Supplement), preserved with BHT and BHA, Taurine, Potassium Chloride, minerals (Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite), Beta-Carotene. And this is the canned: Water, Beef By-Products, Chicken, Rice, Ground Whole Grain Corn, Pork Liver, Soybean Mill Run, Soybean Oil, Calcium Sulfate, Potassium Chloride, Iodized Salt, Choline Chloride, Vitamin E Supplement, Taurine, Ascorbic Acid (source of vitamin C), Zinc Oxide, Ferrous Sulfate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Beta Carotene, Niacin, Manganous Oxide, Copper Sulfate, Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Biotin, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Riboflavin, Calcium Iodate, Folic Acid, Sodium Selenite It also has chicken and beef by product meal which means the meal is made out of beaks, feet, etc., all the waste from the carcass. It also contains BHT and BHA which are toxic. BHA Enhanced stomach and urinary bladder carcinogenesis. Causes squamous-cell carcinomas in stomachs. (Cancers of this type are among the most lethal and fastest acting, the swiftest effects being seen among animals with light colored fur.) BHT Promoted urinary bladder carcinogenesis. Could be a promoter of thyroid carcinogenesis. Studies have noted that BHA and other antioxidants, particularly Propyl Gallate and ethoxyquin, showed additional effects in inducing stomach hyperplasia and cytotoxicity. According to Dr. Wendell Belfield, DVM, practicing veterinarian for some 26 years, both BHA and BHT are known to cause liver and kidney dysfunction and are banned in some European countries. http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-...ogy_of_bha.htm Why would you prescribe a food known to cause bladder cancer to a dog who already has bladder problems? No wonder your poor baby is scratching. I can't understand why these companies put such garbage in their foods, especially their prescription diets. They certainly charge enough for them! There are other brands of prescription diets like Waltham, Eukanuba and Purina. You might want to check the ingredients in them, although I doubt they'll be much better. |
