Dental Measures Do you brush your dog's teeth yourself? If you do, how often and with what? In addition, or in place of (please specify) do you have it done professionally? And if so, how often? Is there any particular product that's made for dental care that you would advise against and why? |
I used to just brush Maddie's teeth with a standard doggie toothbrush and that peanut butter flavored petco toothpaste...when I only had her. But then when I got the others I knew I had to find a new and easier method, because I had to fight them every day... So I just recently started on the Petzlife gel and spray, and I'm liking the ease so far...no HUGE results yet...but that remains to be seen... |
I normally brush Lacy's teeth once a week when I give her a bath. I use a spinning toothbrush that I found at Petco with a mint-flavored toothpaste that I bought at Petsmart. I brush her teeth with that first. Then I put a finger toothbrush on my finger and brush her teeth with that. She's only had her teeth kindof cleaned once..when she was 7 or 8 months. She had to have 4 baby teeth pulled and her teeth got cleaned then too. I switched from kibble to a raw diet a year and a half ago, and tarter doesn't build up on her teeth anymore. She only has a tiny amount left from when she ate kibble. I don't think she'll need to be put under for a teeth clean again. I also give her Merrick Bullystix. I don't know if they really help with her teeth but she likes chewing on them. |
Try petzlife http://www.sassypup.net/Dental-Care-...p-1-c-295.html YOu will truly see amazing results after 4-8 weeks. A lot of members here use it with great results. |

Well, every dog will react differently. My girl hates her teeth brushed but has gotten used to it. A lot of members here simply use a cloth/guaze and rub petzlife on their teeth, others use the spray so really it depends on the dog and how consistent you are. |
Thank you for your replies! Does the Petzlife remove plaque? I try to brush Max's teeth, but he hates it (he loves the chicken flavored toothpaste, but he doesn't like me sticking my finger in his mouth (or anything else like a toothbrush) and we end up getting that sticky paste all over his hair around his face:rolleyes: . His food def. does not help with plaque removal and I haven't been giving him anything to chew on since we stopped the greenies a couple of years ago. Are bully stix or any of those actually beneficial? Someone told my hubby that some of the rawhide (or similar) chews weren't good for them b/c they just ball up in their stomach. Is this true? He doesn't like any of the hard chew toys, so that won't help. And there's absolutely NO Way I'd have him put under to have his teeth cleaned; I just know we've got to do something! Regarding just brushing at home; is there anything that I can do to remove the plaque, or does it have to be done professionally? Or....will the Petzlife take care of that? Also....and I know this is kind of a dumb question since I know there's people here who use it, but my husband will ask for proof I'm sure....is the Petzlife safe in all other regards for their health? We've discussed it before and he asked me how I KNOW that it's not going to be bad for his health in some other way. |
