what health problems are yorkies prone to? I know every breed has a list of health problems, what are yorkies prone to, and what is their expected lifespan? |
Yorkie can have liver shunts, problems with their hips (most dogs can get this), joint problems, teeth decay and colapsed trakes. Some of this can be prevented with food and life styles. Some live to be 15, 16 and 17. It just depends. |
Yorkies are prone to luxating patella (dislocated knee caps sometimes requiring surgery), collapsed trachea, liver shunt and Microvascular Dysplasia and periodontal disease. Some Yorkies can be sensitive to anesthesia. They have vaccine reactions quite ofen. Their eyes can be runny and some get yeast infections in their ears. Pancreatitis is a bit of a concern. I know I"m missing some. Going with a reputable breeder may put your Yorkie at a lesser risk than others. Their life expectancy is 12-15 years but some live lots longer. Welcome to YorkieTalk. |
