Dog Cleanliness Does anyone have information on the cleanliness of a dog? Or more specifically their mouth? Weird question right? My boyfriend is Iranian and his family and friends are not fond of dogs because they think they are dirty animals. I remember hearing something about dog's mouths being cleaner than humans. Personally I don't care and I love to cuddle with my little baby. I would just love to supply some factual ammunition. |
I think as long as you bathe your dog regularly (I bath mine once a week), they are clean for the most part. My dog lives inside and only goes outside to potty. I keep her brushed regularly so she's very clean. She is in no way a dirty animal. So far as her mouth, I brush her teeth once a week as well so that plaque and tarter do not have a chance to build up. Here are some articles about dog's mouths & the bacteria in them. For the most part, the bacteria in a dog's mouth is species-specific and isn't harmful to people - although a bite wound to a person could become infected. http://amos.indiana.edu/library/scripts/dogmouth.html http://www.usc.edu/CSSF/History/2005/Projects/J1004.pdf http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz...infections.jsp If you don't keep your dog's teeth clean, serious dental problems can develop http://www.thepetcenter.com/exa/oralhealth.html |
