Fruit ok? Is it okay to give Tucker dried fruit? I've seen where some of you feed your babies bananas and apples. I was just wondering if things like dried mangos, peaches, pineapples are ok. I know raisins are bad, but other than that, is fruit ok? Thanks! |
Mine love dried fruit but only get a little bit since it has so much sugar:) |
I gave him a pinch of the dried mango when he came in from pottying outside as a treat and now he's trying to get me to take him back outside! |
I don't personally recommend it here's why: Commercially prepared dried fruit may contain added sulfur dioxide which can trigger asthma in sensitive individuals. The sulphur is added to "fix" the color of the product. If it can cause asthma in people it can't be very good for dogs IMO. If its organic and contains no sulfur dioxide it should be okay in small amounts due to the high sugar content, otherwise id say no! Raisins and grapes are not good for dogs! |
I think the dried fruit has too much sugar in it. |
I always give fresh fruit |
In Dr. Pitcairns book he say: Many dogs have a sweet tooth, and they enjoy an occasional piece of fruit as a snack. They like dried fruits such as figs, dates, prunes and apricots, as well as fresh fruits like apples, bananas, and berries. Like vegetables, fruits are a great storehouse of vitamins, minerals, and and vital energy. |
