Teeth Cleaning So our little Lola went to the vet today and they suggested that she get her teeth cleaned soon. She is 2 1/2 years old. We have always been worried about putting her under again due to her size. She has had 2 major surgeries. The first, involved orthopedic surgery and the second was for her spay, microchipping, and tooth removal. The doctor said that he had to put her under for the teeth cleaning too. Here is my dilemma, she is only 2 3/4 pounds and I worry about the anasthesia(sp). She has had no prior reactions, but I am still so worried. Has anyone experienced this with a dog Lola's size? Any advice would be appreciated. By the way, I noticed on other threads about this, people gave a price range of $200-600 dollars. Are vet said it would be over $700. Crazy huh? |
WOW! 700???? I can't imagine paying that for a teeth cleaning! GEEZZZZ! Ok sorry, just a little shocked. I just had my little MiMi's teeth cleaned and she is 3lbs. I was also VERY VERY nervous. It was her first time being put under, she also had some teeth removed (and all together with baby teeth removal, was only $120). She did fine, didnt even act like anything had happened. I dont really have any suggestions, but maybe ask your vet if he has cleaned teeth of toy breeds before? Personally I would be looking for a new vet anyway $700 is waaay too much for a teeth cleaning IMO. |
It is not much fun dealing with anesthesia.:( I can't help you with the size thing because Ellie is 5 1/2 pounds. If she has done well for the last two, you must have a good vet.:) Do you brush her teeth daily or use something on them? You might be able to get out of dentals altogether if this works out. What you were quoted is entirely too much for a dental. I wouldn't be too happy with that. I believe vets deserve a lot of money but a little teeth cleaning can't take more than 20 or 25 minutes. Ellie's vet is very expensive and it cost me just about $600 for a teeth cleaning, getting 9 adult teeth pulled, cleaning under the gums (I think), oravet home care kit, oravet first application, pain med, anesthesia, xrays and preop bloodwork. I wonder why a simple cleaning is $700. If Ellie's vet charged that much I would pay it because I like her so much and trust her, but that is really over double the highest it should be. |
That seems really high to me. You might want to check around, and I'm sure all will work out with the anesthia. |
Wow I'm gonna keep at trying to brush Furgies teeth!!! that is a lot of dough! |
I have to let you all know that Furgie let me do a good brushing today...I'd like to have done more but hey thats a big big improvment. |
