Fiona is a really picky eater. I got Fiona at 8 weeks she was eating Eucanuba puppy food. In about a month she wouldn't eat it any more. I have tried every brand recommended by my vet and the same thing. She'll start eating like she's really going to like it and in no time she won't have anything to do with it. The last I've tried was Royal Canin Yorkshire mini bites. She ate it the longest of any of the other brands then wouldn't eat it anymore. My vet suggested just waiting and eventually she would eat. I waited 72 hrs. and she still wouldn't eat. I was really getting worried. the vet gave me canned meat (Prescription Diet A D) to mix with the R.C. minbites. She would just lick the meat off and leave the rest. I finally went to Purina Moist and Meaty. I still have to mix the meat with it and eventually she will eat it. She just won't eat any hard food at all. Does any one have any suggestions? She gets very little treats. I even took them away from her while waiting. |
Hmm.. this is not good. Sorry, don't have any advise but I'm sure someone will come along and help you. Welcome to the forums! :yorkietal |
If she will eat the canned food let her eat the canned food she doesnt need the hard |
Although I don't like canned food if it's all she'll eat I'd give it to her. You don't want her to get sick from not eating. |
Dry Dog Food Doesn't Fiona need the dry dog food for better and stronget teeth? |

This may sound 'off the wall' but have you tried changing the dish you feed her with? My Kalani has always been a very picky eater and I usually have to hand feed him. One day I left him on his own and heard him biting the side of the bowl. So, on a whim, I picked up his bowl and poured the food on to a plate and he ate it within seconds - so that's what he eats off of now:) |
Picky eating Sound familiar to me. Jack is a picky eater I have tried all you have done. He finally got on Natures Balance small bites. He seems like he likes it. I still try to feed him wet puppy food. I even have tried to feed my other dogs the same so Jack will eat out of there bowls. Jack use to eat stuff out of the yard instead of eating food I was so upset about this I cried for hours so we went to Petco and they suggested the Natures balance and wow what a difference it has made. Yes, I have changed his bowl, Yesterday I actually got him to eat two times in One day but I cheated I would act like I was putting his treats in the bowl, Lets see how this works. To answer your question (Sorry) Everytime I would go to the store I would pick up puppy wet food and try it. So you might try that. Hopes this helps you Cheryl:animal-pa |
Picky eater! Thanks every one. I'm anxious to try the suggestions. Some I have tried, but some I haven't. Thanks again. Fiona's Mom |
I had a very similar issue with my girl, Piper. What worked for us was boiled chicken...warmed, on a little side/bread plate. I know..sounds crazy. But she would eat that. We went to my parent's place and my mom wanted to feed her some of the chicken from the chicken broth she made. I said "Go ahead, but she'll never eat it." So, of course, to prove me wrong... Piper gobbled it right up (Grandma was so pleased!). Then we moved to other things. Again, all warmed and on a bread plate. She just doesn't like a bowl at all. Or cold food. She's presently eating Nature's Variety raw (warmed after it is thawed) and is loving that...this week. My vet's suggestion was to never buy anything in the big bag and that this issue is very normal for Yorkies. Piper is now 6 months old and has become a bit less picky. But but she still doesn't care for food in a dog bowl. |
Pixie has Royal Canin chicken & Rice canned meat which i heat for a few seconds in the microwave, seems to bring out the flavour more, i also mix some RC kibble in with it and occasionally mix a few bits of fresh chicken with it too. maybe try Butchers Tripe mix with the kibble..strong flavours usually encourage them to eat..or mix some cheese in with her food. |

Picky Eater Good Morning: Well, I am dog-sitting for my mother-in-law she has 2-dogs and with all the goings on Jack will not eat. I had him eating 2-meals a day "Natural Balance". He was doing so good and now Nothing. Should I worry? He acts good and drinks water. We are babysitting until the 27. I offer him during the day and if we eat we try to feed him something. Just trying to do good for him. Cheryl:animal-pa |
Remi eats Eagle Pack Holistic Select dog food (1/4) cup and a tablespoon or so of cooked chicken, good hamburger meat, london broil, etc. He also gets a teaspoon of yogurt. He is a good eater most of the time, especially if I vary the added, cooked foods. Remi also likes carrot and broccoli as an after dinner treat! |
try natual balance dry & rolls my kayko was a picky eater he loves this stuff & its good for him |
