There are a lot of people asking on here if their pups look like full blooded yorkies. If you wondered or if you had a mix breed would you pay for dna testing?

There is a lot of talk about banning pit bulls here as a woman was recently killed by 2. I wonder if they will start making people do this test if there is a question whether or not a dog is part pit?

Personally, I wouldn't. I don't really care but I'm not a breeder or showing my dog. All I know is that I've got a darling, loving, sweet tempered companion who makes our life better in a zillion different ways and makes us want to be better people. I couldn't ask for anything better than that.

There is also a blood test available called Wisdom Panel that recognizes over 100 breeds. I am thinking about doing it for Ellie. This will make a lot of bad breeders accountable.

Assuming of course that the breeder knew the dogs were mixed...maybe the breeder took their chances, just like everyone else, in what they purchased. How many generations would you go back to say you were "taken"?

I know Lacy didn't come from a good breeder...just a backyard breeder breeding her family pets and she's registered with one of those random registries. So who knows if there is something else back in her lines... I guess if I wanted to know, I'd pay, but I'd rather not know. She's all yorkie to me.

From now on I will be getting my dogs from reputable show breeders...so if there was ever a question in my mind for some reason then, of course I'd do the test.

I guess everyone could be taken to an extent....unless the parents are DNA'd there is always a chance of someone being dishonest about who the dad is or even the mom. Like my breeder has 2 females and 1 male. both females had pups at the same time (4 days apart), the litters nursed both mothers....now she had bands on them for identity reasons but if she had not did that who know which litter is which without dNA? There is always a margin for error and being I do not breed it doesnt really matter to me with mine, but I can see where the error could take place and how DNA could be VERY important esecially if in a situation like my breeder had, what if one mom was a mix? I think the test could be very important but then again....I dont really care whats in mine......Now if this test could give a reading of every breed that makes up the full blooded Yorkshire Terrier, now that I would pay for. It would stop MANY heated debates on Beiwers, Partis, chocolates, and goldens.

If your really concerned you would want to buy from breeders who DNA'd the mother and father as well, and could show you the papers. When I bred pits all of them were DNA tested, and we had papers to prove it. We also supplied all our new owners with everything they needed to DNA their babies, and left it up to them to chose to do it or not.

I think I"ve heard that this test goes back a generation or two (not sure). If I bought from a reputable breeder and my Yorkie was standard there would be no reason for me to do it. If it was off-standard and I did the test then I would talk to the breeder about it. I would think that if they love the breed, they would stop breeding their mixes and calling them purebred. All would be good with me if they stopped breeding these dogs and got different ones to breed. I would not feel taken but I would be a bit upset if I planned on breeding them.

I got Ellie from a breeder that I never should have. She is off-standard and I love her anyway. That doesn't stop my curiosity though and I really want to know if she is a mix. This is a breeder that never should have been doing it in the first place and now she is out of business:rolleyes:

I agree....Sounds like your the type of breeder that leave no questions unanswered! GOOD JOB! :thumbup:

I DNA all the Biewer puppies. DNA identifies parentage--who belongs to whom--Dam, Sire, Puppies.

The other test identifies if your dog is purebreed or not. Doesn't identify specifically who the parents are, but rather what breeds are in your dog's heridity.

Does this make sense?
