Any experiences with this???? It appears Delilah is losing her hair. There are no obvious signs of illness, no skin rashes, no excessive scratching, no odor. She is on the raw diet and I have been giving her about 3 or 4 drops of Dermapet Eicosaderm (omega 3, vitamin e) per day and just recently started giving the Cosequin Regular Strength to help with her joints. Have given less than half pill per day for last 3 or 4 days. I don't know what could be the cause.....any ideas? |
Is she losing it all over or just in one spot? |
Can it be stress? I'm just guessing though, idk the reason |
when did you notice the hair loss? was it before or after the diet switch? |
At first it appeared to be just her head and chest but now I think it is only because of the coloring that made me think it was only there...now I think it is evenly thinner all over. I thought I noticed it last week after her weekly bath but this yesterday after her bath it really looked thin! She has been on the raw diet for at least a month. We had had some problems with fleas and I had put frontline (spay) on her. Then bought some Advantage on her this past Monday. Really worried about it and guess I will have to take her to the vet. |
I would take her to the vet just incase. My friend that just lost her Yorkie, he had hair loss problems as well before he passed. Not very noticable ones, but you could tell he lost a little hair. Anyway not trying to scare you at all, just saying it can be anything. Sometimes it can be just stress, but if she appears healthy overall i wouldn't worry too much, just take her to check her out. |

also how old is she? |
she is 10 months. She has always had thin baby fine hair. But I have just started noticing she is losing it for the past two weeks. She has been on the raw and doing great otherwise for a month. |

hmm, could it be that her adult coat is coming in and it just appears that she is balding? i know when they first get the grey/white on the top of their heads it looks like they are going bald. i don't know what else to tell you because she is on fish oil/vit e and raw. perhaps its the protein your feeding? i dunno. she's young so i doubt its a thyroid problem |
Funny you should mention protein....I was thinking the same thing. I know when I have been on a high protein diet i would lose hair. But really the raw only has 13.0% crude protein which is much less than some kibble. So I don't know, hope you are right and it is just a transition period for her. |

Please Help... My Tyler is loosing his hair too. But his 2 years old and this started about two months ago. I took him to the vet bc I noticed he had fleas, they gave him front line and he is still loosing hair. I'm very worried. Tyler is a very picky eater so he only eats fruits and vegies with a little of Hills prescription diet on top of it. He has always given me problems with his diet. I dont know what to do in that case. The vet told me that his hair lose can be caused by the fleas he had or mal-nutrition...I also noticed that his skin is dry. Is there anything I can buy for that? A shampoo or conditioner? His head is full of hair, its just his body, like his chest, neck, and back. His legs and head are okay. Please Help!! |
I'm not sure what it could be, but if your concerned I'd bring him for a vet check. Maybe there's something missing in his diet. |
