Confused about lecithin.... I know alot of you on here have read "Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats"...I am a little confused about something. As you know his book starts off by telling a story of a couple who brings in a dog with severe allergy problems, scratching like crazy, hair falling out, foul skin odor, etc. They had exhaused all avenues concerning prescription drugs and decided to take a nutritional approach, anyway the couple follows his plan and the dog ends up 100% better. In his book he instructs the use of his "Healthy Powder" which I have read on YT that some of you use it as I do also. One of the ingredients is 1 cup of lecithin. Well the confusion comes here, as I was reading my Modern Dog magazine last night I cam upon the "Solid Gold" add and it states "Solid Gold never uses soybean (also known as lecithin), wheat, or corn, which causes allergies in dogs." My Kylie has allergy problems as it is, so should I not use the "Healthy Powder" in her food? I am so confused. |
If you are worried about her having an allergy to it, then maybe you could just omit the lecithin. Mix it up without the lecithin :) |
We are using the lecithin with no problems and Spike has very sensitive skin. I'd give it a try and if you notice any problems you could cut it out. Soy seems to be one of those contrversial things, even in the human world. |
We also use lecithin with our dogs and have had no problems. |
I am beginning to question Dr. Pitcairn now. This just adds to it because the other day I found out her recommends vitamin C and dogs don't need it. |

I just looked it up. He says: "not officially required for dogs or cats because they synthesize their own, but clinical experiences suggest it's value." I don't give it to mine. |
Vitamin C is optional as dogs can produce their own. Try the lecithin. Layla has allergies but this does not seem to bother her. It is in SUCH a small amount in her daily intake i dont' think it would bother her but give it a try. |

I had been giving the Healthy Powder to her, we are actually on our 2nd batch of the powder, and I only give them 1 tsp/day not 2. It's just when I read that statement I was wondering if I was doing more harm than good with her. |

I've been giving Lacy Juice Plus for Dogs. It was originally made for people but then they started making it for dogs and cats too. I'm almost done with my second jar now..just bought a third today. I think Wiggles & Wags has one jar left. Here is some info about it: http://www.juiceplus.com/nsa/pages/Welcome.soa http://www.eatmoreveggies.net/dogs.html |
i think it all depends on what source you find more credible. Myself i am more apt to believe someone (Dr. P) who has been doing this for 25 years... he knows what he is talking about... but if your dogs are having a reaction to it.. stop giving it to them... i think dogs can have alleriges to almost anything so just go with your gut. ANd the vitamin C says it is optional... myself i don't give it. |
