Started Natures Variety Today OK I started NV today!!! The dogs LOVED it. Took only 5 seconds for them to devour it down, no promnpting or anything. I was a little worried though, they still seem hungry. I followed the chart for the amounts so they should be getting enough. Do you think I should up the amounts or do most dogs want more when you start? |
My dogs have it several times a week and they would eat it all day if I let them.:D I know it doesn't seem like a very large amount, but feeding raw is different than feeding kibble - I don't think they need as much. My dogs are doing great weight wise. (well one is a pound or two over) I know when I started feeding it, I thought, too, that it couldn't possibly be enough for them... but it is!:) |
Today I did up it by 1/2 oz. That was the difference in upping my dogs energy level. I hope it helps. Took them 2 sec. to eat it all. There has been no side effects so far, I was prepared for possible diareeah(sp). They are soooo happy to eat! I used to have to BEG Chloe to eat anything. She danced around me and whined the whole time I got it out. The price is more than the canned food they were on but their happiness and health is worth it. I love these babies. Especially more today after I watched that horrible video in the sick forum. |
glad your first day on raw went well. how much do each of your yorkies weigh, how old are they, and how much are you feeding? i too feed NV raw. Morgan is 1 1/2 years old, 4.5lbs, and gets 2-3oz per day. |
I have been feeding mine NV exclusively for about a year. I also feed them the dry kibble and switch between the raw and canned for variety. I have talked to the local rep and he said the food has been formulated to be able to rotate the foods for variety. I leave dry food out at all times. I like that their poop is hard and dry, easy to clean and they are very healthy. If you sign up on their web site they will give you a buy one get one free coupon. And then they send it out to you about every three months or so. Really helps with the cost. |
My Chloe is 8 lbs full grown she gets 5 oz a day, Tank is 4lbs at 10 months and he get 2 1/2 oz a day, and Lana is 6 months at 2 1/2lbs and I give her 2 1/2 oz a day too. We have freeze dried livers for snacks or treats too. Im avoiding all grains for Chloe so she gets a bit more treats than Tank or Lana. They get rice chex occasionally. We wont pass 4 treats a day. All 3 of them are pretty lazy pups. Thay LOVE to sit on my and be petted so I didn't want to put them down as to active. I just ditched the kibble all together. No ones going to eat it over raw. |

Were going to be keeping up the raw for sure! The Poops are soo much nicer and they are so happy to eat. I told my vet today and he laughed and asked if the pups pull out a lighter to cook it to make sure and get pictures. He was good about it. The only question I have is on first couple of days is it normal to sleep a little more? I was wondering if its detoxing or just the gloomy weather. |
I also just started NV, yesterday. I am feeding my 3lb yorkie 3 medallions a day, she eats it like she was starving to death! Shes a picky eater so I hope she keeps this up, she has weight to gain! I tried feeding raw with the chicken wings etc, but shes so picky she wont chew up the bones so I opted this route instead of going back to kibble. I can't wait to see her with some meat on her bones! :) |
Is it a lot more expensive to feed raw rather then kibble? I'm glad your baby is really enjoying it. |
Just to report that since staring the NV a month ago Delilah has put on 6 oz. She is now a whopping 2.6 lbs. May need to lose a couple of oz. I am gonna try to tapper he down to 2 medallions a day. I told y'all she was a little pig with the raw. And to think, this is the same little girl that was soooooooooo picky before! And to answer someones question above....yes, Delilah was sluggish the first few days to a week....it worried me at first, even wondered if she had liver shunt as she would kinda stare off into space. But she is fine now....lazy lap dog at times but that is just her. |

http://www.naturesvariety.com/tryit/index2.lasso But I can not tell you how much money I wasted on high end dog food that she would not eat! Take into consideration the amount you will save in vet bills as your baby should be healthier and the cost is worth it! As long as my girl continues to thrive on it, I will never go back!!! |
I had extra chicken meat tonite at dinner so I tried letting the dogs have it. It went so so. I took a raw chicken breast and cut it up into manageable pieces and gave it to my 3. They loved chewing on the bones and seemed to like the meat but it took them forever to eat it and didn't finish anything. Lana ,my baby, tried to carry her piece up into my recliner! Like I'm gonna eat raw meat in my favorite chair! I think next time I'll let them have a wing, more controlable piece of meat. Do you thing I should take the skin off if its a treat and not dinner? |
