Thanks for the advice. I am going to try to get it out myself....wish me luck. My stomach is in knots...gross!!!! |
Ohhhh, get it out, get it out, get it out. poor baby. |
When I was at the vet last time they had a device there that you could purchase to remove ticks, I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. I suggest taking your dog to the vet to get it removed, better to be safe than sorry. |

If the head is buried under the surface, how do you get to it though (interested in case I ever run across this problem...) |

Thanks for that tidbit of valuable info!!! I remember my sister had a little beagle, that had a "bump" on his head. She used to rub it while watching tv.......thought it was just a part of the dog. One day it fell off and walked away.....she flipped out! It was so gross!!! but funny too to watch her reaction............ |

Alcohol will not suffocate the tick, the head is buried in the skin and it is still alive so the alcohol will not do anything.. I do this all the time with my outside dog, I live in Ky and they get ticks during the summer.. All you need to do is get ahold of it with your hands and not tweezers (they will burst the tick and then it will cause infected blood to go back in the skin) get a good grip on it but not to tight and pull it out. Don't squeeze to hard on the tick...If it does leave the head in it will not hurt the dog, I saw a show on Opera about that a doctor said that the myth of the head left in the skin is not true, and putting a hot match on the ticks butt will not cause it to move back out I have tried that it will only cause it to die, and you do not want that.........After you get it out clean the place with alcohol and put some antibiotic ointment on it.... Hope this helps I have did this many of times...... |
*sigh* alright fine. i give up and apparently i know nothing. i must be wasting my time as a vet tech  |
