Can Yorkies (in my case Shorkies) drink milk? Ive always heard that milk is not good for puppies, does anyone know this to be true? Ive had Labs before and as they were puppies (they never were as small as Precious, but) they drank milk by the gallon. Im just wondering, because a steady diet of Purina puppy chow (GAWD THAT STUFF STINKS! LOL) and cold water daily just seems so cruel. It seems like Im treating her like a inmate, only bread and water (her case Purina :thumbdown *bleeeck*:thumbdown Puppy Chow & water) :p |
Have you thought about changing your dog's food? That stuff is horrible. Some dogs have lactose intolerance issue, so I wouldn't give them milk personally. I do give cottage cheese and plain yogurt though. They seem to set okay in small amounts. There are tons of people foods that Yorkies can have even if you don't want to homecook. How about boiled white meat chicken (no skin, no fat), lettuce, carrot (better cooked or pulverized but okay raw in small amounts), green beans, squash, sweet potato and regular potato (peeled and cooked), watermelon, peeled apple, Cheerios, banana, rice... |

I was thinking of going to a wet dog food; the wife is adamant about no table scrap type food (nothing we could eat). I was thinking maybe the food where that lil fluffy dog wakes up its master and she feeds it the food with two baby carrots on the side? (I couldnt tell ya the name of the food to save my life lol) Thanks for the suggestion and info about lactose intolerance. I would have never knew. As I mentioned the Labs I had would eat everything from kibble to small trees, so I assumed milk wasnt gonna be bad for them LOL.:animal36 |
Well as long as they handled the milk I don't think it would hurt... Any food that you could get at a grocery store is probably not a good choice. There are a few foods that Petco and Petsmart carry like Natural Balance and Solid Gold that are higher quality. To get a really good food you would have to order online or go to a small petstore chain (like Pet Supplies Plus). I highly recommend only feeding canned because it is much less processed and the moisture amount is good. It could get very expensive though. Some good brands are Innova, Evo (grainless), Canidae and Evangers. If you want to go kibble some brands people here feed are Innova, Canidae, Wellness, Natural Balance and Orijen (grainless, very high in protein). |

What about homecooking for your puppy? I can't imagine how boring and unhealthy it would be to eat the exact same thing every day of my life...yuck. Lacy is on a raw diet and I alternate protein sources so she gets variety. She LOVES her raw food. |
