Greenies I finally tried the infamous greenie bones for my babies. At first they just looked at them then after a few seconds, they were gone!! They love them and I am glad it freshens their breath and are good for them. A little pricey but worth every penny for my babies. |
Yup, it's great for their teeth, and occupies them for 30 mins or an hour too! Lets ya get some work done when you need to! :) |
Are they healthy? I bought one for my baby, but it disapeered... I'm thinking a family member must have spotted it and gave it to an older dog. |

Ranger wont eat his greenie unless its fresh out of the microwave. He likes them warm and chewy, but when they cool off they harden and it hurts like no other when stepped on :rolleyes: . |
I am going to try the microwave trick. Buckeye won't start one but will take one away from Ahia after she has started chewing on one. she has gotten so she won't start one either. Buckeye doesn't chew on anything. so the only teeth cleaning he gets is when i force him to brush his teeth and of course his science diet food. microwave-ing might help him get started on one. course i don't think it will do him any good unless it cools and hardens soon after he starts chewing on it. |
Yes, Catrienne, Greenies are great to clean a Yorkie's teeth! Lots of us highly recommend it, and our Yorkies all love them. |
I had to stop giving my baby Greenies when she was diagnosed with liver shunts and put on a low protein prescription diet. :( She was so sad because she really liked them. If anybody else has this same problem, a great alternative for us has been Nutrident bones by Nylabone. They even look like Greenies - tooth brush shaped - but are much lower in protein and my little Dante absolutely LOVES them! |
Are the nylabones digestable? I bought one for Hercules and it started to break off. Is it ok to eat? |

The package says: "Nutri Dent; Edible Dental Brush Chews; Nutritious, great tasting chews that help clean teeth and remove plaque and tartar while freshening breath." We're currently controling the situation with a low protein prescription diet and attempting to keep the toxins in her body as low as possible. It's been working well for a year. Unfortunately, there's no telling how long that can work. There is a medication that can help - Metronidazole, "(generic of Flagyl) is an antiprotozoal and antibacterial medication with intestinal anti-inflammatory properties." Another problem that can occur from too many toxins in the system is brain inflammation (the fancy name is "hepatic encephalopathy"). Another medication, Lactulose, is used "for the prevention and treatment of hepatic encephalopathy". Plus depending on the kind of shunt, surgery may be possible to correct it. I don't think a Yorkie with liver shunts can live as long as a Yorkie without them, but my vet has told me that if kept under control she could live a pretty full life. But now she has a new problem though - her left legs are weak and she doesn't feel well so we're trying to figure out what that's all about. She'll be seeing yet another doctor on Wednesday, this time for a neurological consult :( |
Nutrident bones Be careful not to let them have too much of those nutrident bones. My yorkies ate too much and they had the runs! |
Thanks for the info, I'll watch for that. I try to limit her to 4 of the small size per week and no more than 1 in any 24 hour period - so far so good :) |
