Another Raw Freeze Dried Feeding Question First post here, I am a new mom to an approximately 4 year old yorkie-mix girl. I am not really sure what she had been fed prior to coming to live with me, but I have had her for about 2 months and am feeding her Evo Small Bites exclusively. I want to take good care of her, and have been researching raw. To be perfectly honest, I can't bring myself to go the prey model route. Other than mail order, I don't have a source for the frozen pre-made diets, and since I work, I don't want them defrosting on my front porch. Is the freeze dried a viable, long term solution? Does anyone use this as their sole source of food for their Yorkies? I have been thinking of feeding a mix of the Instinct canned, with the freeze dried, and the Evo left out all day for nibbling. Would this be an adequate diet for an adult dog? Or would an exclusive raw freeze dried be better (or worse)? Thanks for the info! |
gosh, i have no idea. but am curious to see the answer!!!! welcome to YT :) |
It would be fine long term, but it is the most expensive in terms of the pre-made, if that's a concern. Maybe you could cycle the canned w/ the medallions - ie, feed canned in a.m., FD in p.m. - if you want to have Nature's Variety kibble, it'd be best to feed it w/ the canned - and feed the FD raw alone. In this case, I would ask myself "which feels best for me and my baby" - and sometimes you find your answer there. Luckily, ALL of your choices are so very healthy - you really can't make a bad decision here, so bravo! |
I leave kibble out all day (Merricks) and home cook them one meal a day. They both are very healthy and happy babies!!! Great choices and glad to see you being so conscience of her diet, You are what you eat!!! |
mine love the freeze dried venison from NV..i usually rotate them between raw, freeze dried and kibbles. i sometimes give the freeze dried as treats by cutting them in small pieces. freeze dried is the most expensive form but i can live without it when we travel since i can only pack either kibbles or freeze dried. just keep in mind that it comes in handy when you travel! |
I thought if you fed raw you are not suppose to give kibble....Something to do with digestion and how long it takes raw vs kibble?? |

But, for some dogs - it seems it is difficult for them to digest both raw and non-raw at the same time, hence the 5-hr recommendation. |
oh i don't mix raw and kibbles..i at least wait 7hr before giving the kibbles if i gave them raw for breakfast.. |

Kiss the fur butts for me!! :D |
Thanks for the info. Well no worry about mixing kibble with the FD. The little lady won't touch the kibble now at all! How long is it safe to leave dry kibble out in the bowl? I store her kibble in the freezer, and remove what I think she will eat--she hasn't touched her kibble in a day and a half now. I don't want it to go rancid in the bowl. |
