The best diet for a puppy? Hello, this is my first post here on YT. :o We are thinking about getting a Yorkshire Terrier and we are gonna get one soon. But I always like to know as much as possible before hand. So I was looking for a good diet for a puppy that won't cost me a fortune and maybe something that I can get at a local petstore(rather then ordering it online). Oh and I perfer dry food but whatevers best for the pup is fine with me. Also, I'm interested in hearing what you feed your little ones! :D Rianna |
Right now my 2 girls are eating Innova puppy food. It's about $30.00 for a 16.5 pound bag but you can buy a smaller bag too. I bought the big one though so I (hopefully) won't have to go out for more this winter! My girls are about 2 and 2.5 pounds so that should last them a long time. We don't order online, we buy from a pet supply store which is about 52 miles (one way) from our house...but we do have a local store that will get it in by the next day and all they do is go to the pet supply store I mentioned and pick it up. It's a great food...they have puppy, adult dog and reduced calorie too. If you have a Petco in your area they carry a very good line called Natural Balance by Dick Van Patten...it's also a very good food and it's not too pricey. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk:) Some good foods you can find at Petsmart or Petco are Natural Balance and Solid Gold. There are both okay but I wouldn't pick them. If you have a privately owned pet store or Pet Supplies Plus you may be able to get Innova or Canidae which are highly recommended by lots of people. These all have grains. If you want to go with grainless, you could get Innova Evo. My Yorkie gets homecooked meals. |
I feed canidae all life stages. I get mine at a feed store i got on canidae's web site & found the location close to where i live.I buy a 5# bad for about $ 7.00 it lasts my 2 about 3 wks to a month.:p |
Thanks for all the helpful replies! :) I have a petco really close by and I know I have a petsmart not to far away.. I think I have seen a Pet Supplies Plus somewhere but I'll check it out. I found good reveiws for Canidae, so I think I'm gonna try it. If I can find somewhere that sells it, that is. Once again, thanks! |
Hi, I did lots of research because my Jack has a very sensitive stomach. I went to a website that compares all the foods and California Natural was the best pick I could have ever made. Jack:animal36 Mandy:aimeeyork and now my new addition Lila:aimeeyork are all on the small bites Lamb and rice. No more itchy skin and no more upset tummies. :aimeeyork :aimeeyork Just an FYI they do not need fillers like some commercial brands like Science Diet, Iams etc... have like the gluten. Before doing research I did not know what a difference it would make for mine. The way I look at it I take care myself why would I feed my dogs junk. I even changed my cats diet to Chicken Soup for the pet lovers soul. I am sure whatever brand you chose, doing the research helps you make an educated decision. Good Luck!!!! |
