To Tape or Not to Tape Marley's 10 weeks old now, and her ears aren't standing. I'm trying to decide whether I should shave/tape them, or if I should just let them be. I'm afraid of what it will look like if I shave them lol. I love the look of them standing, but I also think they're cute floppy. It seems like everyone has different opinions. What do you guys think? Is it worth it to try and make them stand? |
Personally, unless you plan to show her then i'd say just leave them alone. They may or may not go up on their own, but what does it matter? You could trim the hair on them but I would not tape. Just let nature take its course. |
I'd try, but she may be going through a stage where she's starting to teeth. |
My Ollie has floppy ears and it fits him perfectly but every now and then when i see a yorkie with the ears up and it looks so very adorable and i wonder if i should of taped his....but then i remember how special he is and really have no regrets--it is who he is. But it seems that most yorkies ears are up. |
The ears of Bikini just went up by themselves at 6 months. Remember that the ears go down sometimes when they are teething ;) I wanted to tape them a few weeks ago and when I was about to do it, they went up by themselves.... She is so cute. But taping them at 10 weeks is too young. Wait a little and meanwhile shave the ears to remove the hair... Good Luck! |

I highly recommend that you shave the tips of his ears inside and out. If they're not standing at 10 weeks, it's not the end of the world. You have until he's up to 5 months or so before I'd call it quits. If within two weeks of shaving and those ears haven't shown signs of coming up on their own, tape. jm2c. |
I think I'll try trimming or shaving her ears, and see if anything happens. How long should it take before I see any results from that (if I do)? Oh ok nevermind, I just saw the 2 weeks part! |
I think it's all about your prefrence.. but I'd shave them and see what happens  |
You love your babies no matter what...I have one with half flopped ears and my second yorkie has them up. I taped her ears to be certain because I prefer them that way. When I got my first little guy, I guess I didn't know any better about their ears or was just so overwhelmingly happy that I got my dream dog, that I didn't even think (or know about) the taping trick. So....I'd try taping them....it certainly did the trick for Lexie's ears and only took a week or two. If they start flopping down again after you take the tape off, just tape them again. Persistance pays! |
