Does anyone know what the normal blood pressure range is?

this is a good chart but it depends on your age. I'm old so my Dr. is happy if the lower # is below 80 and the high # below 130.

My Yorkie sadie has high blood pressure. we had her on Amlodipine but stopped because of a recent faint/poss seizure episode a week ago today. vet is researching an alternate med. but her last reading this past Friday was 230. She was at the vet and had it checked last Monday morning and it was 200. while still on the Amlodipine. so she is rising again. very worried.

I thought you meant for people.....I should have looked at the forum you posted in and I would not have made that mistake.

anything over 200 is bad. Normally when they go to the vet their blood pressure is high because they are scared and excited so it will read higher then their normal BP.

During surgery when the patient is under anesthesia we like to see BPs from 80-120.

I've always wondered how little the bloodpressure cuff is for our little ones. I can't even imagine how you would take the reading!

I know it's tough enough trying to get the temp - we always have a tough time finding the orafice - LOL!

the vet wanted to keep her half a day there. she said the lowest reading she could get was 230. last week her highest was 265. that was when we started the amlodipine. but since our emergency vet visit a week ago tonight she has not been on it. she is on benezaperil which is for blood pressure and protein loss. i do not know if the Amlodipine made her bp drop too low and she fainted from that or not. but we discontinued it and the vet wants to further research an alternative med. in the mean time she is only on the benezaperil and her tyroid med. I only give her a claritin for her allergies if she is scratching really bad. I cannot wait for an internal medicine spec to evaluate her to see what is wrong. I do not know why she is losing high amounts of protein her her urine? and why her bp is so high. these are symptoms in Glomerulonephritis. (which the vet "thinks" she has) Her bun level is also high. last weeks labs showed it was 48. her urine protein/creat ratio was 6.7. these are some very high numbers. her stomach has been making a lot of noise so I have been giving her 1/4 tablet of a pepcid ac. seems to help her. the only thing that keeps me hopeful is that she has been normal all week. very playful, she plays with her toys. her stool has been normal. so hard to know something is going on with her. she triggers no signs to take her in to the vet??? but i know that these values in her labs do not lie.

I don't know if maybe 1/4 tablet of the amlodipine was too much for her? I have been thinking all w/end that maybe I should have tried giving her a super tiny amount of the pill. like maybe taking a 1/4 piece and cutting that in half. I am scared with her blood pressure being so high. They do take a little cuff and place it around her paw. They shave the area, find her heartbeat and then do the bp test.

yes i'd be quite worried about all those lab results. An IM vet will be able to help you i hope. They see so much more then regular vets do and know about the most recent types of meds and studies. I trust the ones at my hospital with anything morgan needs.

do you think maybe giving her the amlodipine but in a smaller amount woulld help. I do not know why the vet is letting us not give her "anything" she has had since last Monday to research an alternative med. I mean the benaleperil isn't doing much for her if her bp was still going up. I am giving her sodium free spring water and she is on hills d/d for now. wanted to switch her food to maybe raw- but we also discovered she has pancreatitis as of yesterday. we will have to talk to the im spec about diet as well. I know low sodium, low phos. those are all low in the raw diet but with so much going on with her I don't want to do anything just yet. I am so scared to give her the amlodipine. but we ALSO do not know if the amlodipine caused her to faint. I still think she had a seizure bc she had a bowel movement both times she went down. first time she was out for about 3 seconds and the second time about 15 seconds. scared me half to death. omg did that scare me. i am still re-living it.

she probably did have a seizure if she had bowel movements. i'm sorry i cannot be much help because i do not know anything really of these BP meds. the specialist will be able to help you more, tho they probably are not going to have anything good to say about a raw diet. I'd do what ever it is to get her bp and such under control first and then once she's stable you can look into other diets to help with the protein and pancreatitis. one thing at a time. i do not think her high BP has anything to do with diet.
