royal canin yorkshire 28 success?! after trying all the premium dry foods on www.dogfoodanalysis.com, my little tookie would only eat a little and then get sick of the food and starve himself. i then switched to natural balance food rolls, which he absolutely loves, but was made aware that by not feeding dry kibble, his teeth were getting worse. despite bad reviews on www.dogfoodanalysis.com, I bought ROYAL CANIN YORKSHIRE 28 since many yorkie owners left good reviews regarding this food with their picky eaters. With little or no hope, I mixed the royal canin with his natural balance food rolls and low and behold he ate it! out of curiousity, I left a half cup of just the kibble after a few days of weaning out the natural balance, and tookie has consistently eaten it everyday. Despite their list of fillers, corn and chicken fat in the ingredients, should I still continue to feed tookie royal canin? I leave the kibble for free feed all day and he eventually finishes it by the time we're ready for bed. Also, the directions on the bag of food says to feed a 5 pound dog only 1/2 a cup a day? Does that sound right? He's very skinny so i'd like him to gain just a bit of weight...HELP!!!! |
Please remember that the link you listed describing the value of the various dog foods is only based on the opinions of those who run the site and take that for what it is worth. All commercial dog foods have fillers and realistically, the order in which they appear in the ingredients means NOTHING. Regardless to which food he is content with, make sure that you are supplementing the diet as needed to ensure he is getting any nutrients and vitamins that the food does not provide.:) |
Ellie was on kibble for five years and had horrible teeth. She got them cleaned in January and got 9 pulled. Now she eats homecooked (soft) and I brush them everyday. Her teeth are fine now. I would say to go with what your dog likes as long as it is high quality and brush teeth. Actually, I have heard a lot of complaints about Royal Canin. It is responsible for quite a few itchy Yorkies. |

I tried to royal canin with the yorkie on the front, giving it as treats only and ended up with all my adults having the poops really really bad, had two babies at the time and gave them a little to try, same thing with them.. So I would never buy it again...I was in a mess for two solid weeks.. |
Bella was on RC for one year. the breeder used it so i continued. she loved it and thrived on it. I switched from the puppy to the yorkie at 10 months. the vet says she is perfect. she is lucky not to have any allergies. i recently changed to innova and she eats it but not as excited about it as the RC...but then again i have started also feeding her yogurt cottage cheese and some apple. |
