How old is your puppy? Shivering is a sign of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Toy breed puppies, especially those under twelve weeks old, are prone to it. Here are the signs in order of severity: Classic signs of hypoglycemia lethargy (lack of energy) weakness head tilting "drunkedness" - wobbling when walking, unbalanced hunger restlessness shivering ataxia - usually lack of muscular coordination, but maybe changes in head and neck movements disorientation stupor convulsions or seizures coma Your puppy needs frequent meals, about 4-5 times a day. It's also a good idea to have some Nutrical on hand. Here is more information about hypoglycemia: http://www.angel-litemaltese.com/Hyp...se_puppies.htm |
GREAT advice has already been given ... I would like to add ... if you don't already have a vet. I am also in Grand Junction and I have a wonderful vet at Tiara Rado Animal Hospital out on Broadway, Dr. Coons [243-4007] and I have found him to very knowledgeable about these little babies! Trish and I use this hospital for our little rescues too. Good luck and please keep us updated on your little one. |
Just wanted to say Welcome to YT! |
I think the puppy is either really cold, has hypoglycemia or possibly a liver problem. Does this occur at a certain time (like before or after eating)? |
Ahhh Iam so sorry, I hope you find out whats wrong, welcome to yt:) |
