Hootie & Hobbs are literally OBSESSED with Orijen! You might have read my thread about Hobbs over-indulging himself on the Orijen yesterday. Hootie and Hobbs are SO OBSESSED with it that I'm having to schedule-feed them for the first time EVER! Hobbs has stayed full since yesterday afternoon. The bag says for dogs 2-22lbs feed 1/2 to 1.5 cups per day. I've been putting out 1/4 in the morning and 1/4 at night for Hootie and Hobbs both to share since Hobbs has been so full. Should I put out more, though? That would mean that they are each eating about 1/4 cup of food total per day. Is that enough?? I would like to separate them during meal time so I know exactly how much each one is getting (bc I have a feeling Hobbs is eating more than Hootie), but I know they won't stay separated. Any suggestions?? |
Been there Hi Rebecca, My two boys were in the same situation. One would eat so fast so that he could go over to the other bowl and gobble up his brother's food. I feed one in the kitchen, alone. I take the other one into the bathroom, close the door, and I sit on the "throne" to keep him company. He is not stressed out and can relax and eat. When they are both done, they lick eachother's empty bowls, and then I take them both in the living room for hand-fed "dessert", like broken up treats or cheerios. I ask them if "they ate nice", and then they do the happy dance on the couch! Eating seperately has really helped the chubby one slim down, and the skinny one attain normal weight. |
how much do they weigh? The thing with Oriken is that it is QUALITY food... no fillers mostly fish.. so because there isn't that starch filler in there they might need more.... Layla gets around 1/2 of food (homecooked, but regardless) a day and she is 6 lbs... i'd try feeding them separately... good choice in food :) |
Hootie is 3 lbs and Hobbs is 4 lbs. In the morning, I'll try feeding them separately and see how it works! Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!! |
How cute! Orijen is notorious, thankfully, for their GREAT taste bc of all the quality ingredients; if I fed kibble, that would likely be the one I'd go back to. Their white paper on canine nutrition is awesome, have you read it? You could try feeding them a bit more - but if you think they are getting enough, then I guess they'll just have to get used to it. Little gobblers! |
