So it turns out... That my puppy may have Atlantoaxial Subluxation. She has an occasional cough, so she had x-rays done to check for collapsed trachea, but there are no signs of that. The vets did notice the possibility of her having Atlantoaxial Subluxation, although it could have been the position she was in is just making it look like that. She would need to have x-rays done in the proper position, and would need to be put under for this. I don't want to have to put her under more than needed, so I think I'm going to wait until she's fixed in a few months time. I have to keep her relatively calm (good luck), and watch for any difference in her walk, or the way she holds her neck, etc. I'm really hoping she doesn't have this, or it could mean her having to wear a neck brace, or have surgery depending on the extreme. Has anyone had any experience with this before? |
Welcome to YT. I sure hope it turns out she doesn't have this. If it ends up she does there are a few others on here who's babies have it. You may want to do a search. |

OH Hon , I am so sorry to hear that your sweet baby might have AAI/AAS. I have a lot of experiance in this department. I do not know if you have done any research on this if not if you go to Babybear's web page on Dogster you will learn alot. Please if you go to his page please click on the diary section. This is not a congenital defect to mess with. My babybear broke his neck and we did not know that he had AAI/AAS. So please do not let her jump up or down cross a floor that is tile, wood or any flat surface she might not want to anyways. Please consider the special xrays they will save her life. This defect can be a death sentance if not caught in time. I do not want to scare you but I do not want to see you go through what I have with Babybear. He is my heart and sole, but we have come a long ways in a year plus. He is now in a wheelchair to walk he walked in his wheelchair and now has freedom before he was on the floor, couch or were ever I would lay him. Please check out his web page. check the whole thing You will get a lot of information and hopefully you will under stand how serious this defect is. Please treat your pup like it was a china doll because they can break their neckes that easily.Babybear only jumped off my lap and that where my hell started. Sorry if I am scaring you. But I am very worried about AAI/AAS pups if they do not get the help they need ASAP. Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I am sorry you are going through this with your pup. Give your baby sweet kisses and belly rubs. Here is Babybear's webpage: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/136060 Pm me if you have any further questions please. Do not hesitate. I am on a lot if you do not hear right back from me I am most likely doing a therapy for Babybear or working with him in his cart. I will be gone during the day tomorrow for about 5 hours but will be back to answer any questions. |
