HELP! Itchy, scratchy dog!! We went to the vet last night and I told him about Bailey itching alot.. he said it looked like dry skin not flakey skin buy scaly. So I bought some AllerG-3 Omega 3 fatty acid pills which he ate when we got home.. AND I swear he's itching twice as much if he's not sleeping he's itching? It is driving me nuts so I know it's got to be driving him nuts. Do you think it could be those pills? I'm gonna call the vet when they open. Any other remedies for ITCHY dogs.. I've done the good food, not corn, Benedryl, less baths.. I just wanna lather him in lotion!! Is there anything to put on his skin.. some kind of lotion or moisturizer?? |
My older dog has the same problem I have found that if I uses cortisone spray it help relieve some of the scratching feeling. Some furbabies will need shots asisst in this problem Please watch for hotshot on backside. Sherlock will scratch until it bleeds. Just spray them with the cortisone. |
You can give them benadryl..1 mg per pound I think it what it is.. |
when lacey has dry skin the vet gave me heska f.a granules its got omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, i just sprinkled a bit on her food for a few days and it got better. |
Have you tried any of the special shampoos for itchy dogs (with oatmeal)? There are also several brands of grooming sprays that are made for "hot spots". Shea Pet has one that I can think of right away. Good luck with Bailey.... |
I got up early and bathed him with the oatmeal and Aloe shampoo and rinsed and rinsed.. we'll see if that helps. He seems a litte better but of course he's sleeping. |

Oh poor BB!!!! Rhonda, please let us know what the Vet says thins morning ;) :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: |
I have been having this problem with LeeLee since I got her and it got so bad that her hair fell out (but it has grown back now). I finally discovered the two culprits for her itchy skin, chicken and grass. I changed her dog food until I found the right one (Solid Gold) and she is not allowed to play in the grass anymore :( which is something that she loves to do. She is also taking Omega3 vitamins. She still scratches sometimes but it is definitely a 100% improvement. The vet was really no help at all. They only wanted to keep giving her antibiotics and Ivermectin shots with benadryl. I had to find my own solution and it worked! |
I just got off the phone with the vet.. HE thinks he is having a reaction to his LEPTO shot he got last night..which I tend to believe.. as soon as we got home he was itching NONSTOP..so he recommended Benadryl today and see how he does.. I asked it he has had this shot before and he said yes..but sometimes they just have a reaction... and sometimes they do not. |
It most likely is a reaction they are common with that shot |
