Can Dogs Catch/Get A Cold? Crazy question, I know. My yorkies have never been ill or seemed to suffer any type of cold. Humans can pass colds to each other, but can dogs catch a cold from a human? :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
Hmmm... dunno Would love to know the answer though :) |
I think I just read a thread couple weeks back on this and the answer was no they can not catch one from us. |
Do dogs get colds? |
Kennel cough is a dogs version of a cold |
I hear that kennel cough is very contageous among dogs. Isn't there a vaccination for that? |

Yes they get the bordatello shot for that |
It was a very time time ago, when I attended vet tech school, and I remember this question well. Dogs do not catch colds, their metabolism is different from humans. They can however have allergies.;) |

dogs do get colds and upper respiratory infections. they can have sneezing, coughing and runny eyes. They can get colds from other dogs but NOT people. |
Diego, They can catch a cold? From a human too or just another dog? I don't think I have ever seen a dog with a cold. I have heard one with kennel cough though. |
That is very interesting. Too bad we couldn't do something to regulate the human metabolism so we couldn't catch a cold! |
I think that dogs can catch Step. from people. Last year a friend of mine children kept getting strep infections. For a couple of months the kids kept getting strep. It turned out that their dog was the carrier of the strep. However, the vet told her that the dog prob. get step from one of the kids. |
Isn't strep. bacterial? Maybe dogs can get bacterial infections from people? |
