Orijen Feeders: Do you free feed??
 
I just got Orijen 6 Fresh Fish in the mail today! Hobbs and Hootie are obsessed!!!!!!!!! They ate and ate and ate. So, I was wondering.....for those who feel Orijen, do you still free feed or do you schedule feed? I know it's pretty high in protein, so I just wanted to make sure I don't give them too much. Is possible for them to eat too much of this? I know my lab will eat until he eats himself to death, but my yorkies have always been different...it's always been pretty difficult to entice them to eat. I just want to take all the necessary precautions. Thanks!

Did you mix the food with their old?

If they won't stop eating I would separate their meals and not free feed.

Well they did eventually stop eating...when they got full. There is food still left in the bowl. I did mix their old food with the new but they just picked out the new and left the old. Pretty much a lost cause for mixing it.

did you just give up and not mix them? I don't see the point of mixing them if they're just gonna pick out the new.

No, I did not give up because I didn't not want to deal with stomach upset. That can cause some pretty serious stuff to heppen (cramps, bloating). I did mix them but at the same time I would pick pieces of her old food out of her dish and hand them to her and make her eat them, so atleast she was getting some of the old or I would give her her old and she would spit it out. Then I would point to it and say "EAT". She listened somewhat. Most Yorkies wouldn't go for this though, so I would totally understand if you gave up now. You could always try crushing it and mixing finer pieces, so they couldn't separate it.

Every single time I've changed their food they've picked out the new and left the old. They are such stinkers! They've never got tummy upset from a food change before, but I didn't know if Orijen was different bc of the higher protein. I guess since they won't eat their old now, all I can do is wait and see.
