Question about Hartz... We bought new puppy today from the Humane Society. They informed me that Hartz is having major probs with their products on it harming dogs. I have Hartz flea and tick shampoo, plus puppy shampoo and a conditioning shampoo and the Hartz flea and tick treatment. I have always used it on my little 4 lb yorkie who is now 2 years old. Has anyone heard anything about this, and if so, where can I read the updates online? Thanks for any help. God bless, Heather |
I have been reading about this a little bit lately. It started with Hartz cat flea products. They put an ingredient in it called phenothrin. This was basically outlawed as a lawn pesticide. It is very dangerous especially when licked. Quite a few cats died from it. Hartz didn't pull the product after that:mad: but did relabel to make sure owners were applying it correctly. I'm not sure what is wrong with the dog forumula but this ingredient might be in it. I would never ever use Hartz products. They are just not safe. |
Hartz products have killed many pets. I honestly don't understand why they still have products on the shelves. I don't buy any of their products - don't trust them. Also, their flea and tick treatments aren't very effective. They have had the same active ingredient for so many years and most fleas are immune to it now so it doesn't work. I'd go with a product that your vet sells such as advantage, promeris, frontline, or revolution. I'd get rid of all the hartz products if I were you - dogs and cats have died because of Hartz. Oh, congrats on your new puppy :) |
No, Please don't use any Hartz products!! They are not safe to use. My vet has had several cases of dogs becoming seriously ill from Hartz products. If your new puppy has fleas, use dawn dish soap to bath it. Put the soap on when the dog's fur is dry and lather it up real well. Let it set for a couple of minutes and rinse of real well. Then use a regular conditioner. This will kill all the fleas and is very safe to use. To prevent fleas get the flea medicine from your vet such as Frontline or Advantage. Store bought brands are dangerous to use. |
I can't believe Hartz is still selling their flea products after all the complaints of dogs and getting sick and even dying: http://www.hartzvictims.org/ Please only use flea products from your vet. |
I would never recommend using Hartz. I would not use flea shampoo on a yorkie either...It is absolutely full of chemicals that may cause harm to your dog. Hartz is having lots of problems with their products. |
Been there My 9-month old Yorkie got fleas and my vet was away on vacation. I went to the supermarket which of course only carried Hartz products. I got the kind for small dogs. Sargie vomited within minutes of my putting it on him. He didn't eat for days. When we were on the verge of taking him to the emergency vet he started to eat. The vet gave me Myconex flea shampoo, which didn't work, and then Protocall (he didn't want to give me Advantix or Frontline) which didn't work. I ended up using Zodiac Puppy spray which did kill the fleas, although it has been tough to get them out of the house...hope the cold killed them - I have birds and fish, and can't "bomb" -at any rate, I wouldn't use Hartz again - except the rawhide chews! |
Hartz is probably one of the worst products you could use on ANY animal...cat and dog. I have heard of dogs and cats dying because of hartz products. If I were you I would purchase dog products, either from a pet store (that doesn't sell pets) or your vet....JMO |
eek...someone needs to regulate the pet industry. |
