My puppy is limping...:( Help... Hi Everyone... Last night my 4 month old puppy was active and running around being his normal self and all of a sudden he started limping on his front right leg. He didn't yelp or cry at all..just started favoring it and became very tired and just slept most of the rest of the night. We could touch the leg and checked the joints and everything and he doesn't seem to be in pain so we figured maybe he just pulled a muscle and we would give it until this morning to see if he is better...usually when he wakes up he is a spitfire and running all over and this morning once again he is limping and he did cry just a little bit and he is sleeping on my lap as we speak...I am calling to get him in to the vet this morning but has anyone else had this happen?? I am really worried:( He is my baby and I am scared... Any response would be appreciated... |
Have you checked each claw and pad on the injured leg? He may have separated a claw from the pad, or he could have something in the pad (like a sliver, small piece of glass). Check each toe for swelling too and check btwn toes. Feel the opposing leg the same time you feel the hurt one too - so you can compare and see if there is swelling on the hurt leg. Sounds like he may need to go in though, poor baby. |
Not with the little ones I've never had that happen, but, my shepherd this summer did that outside, and I don't know exactly what happened, except, she kind of came falling down(think maybe she had stepped in this area outside where we have a drain, and maybe twisted her leg, and let out a yelp, then she limped, but only for a few minutes, then she was back to her old self again..Please let us know what the vet says |
Check all his legs. He could have hurt a knee, or paw. I hope he gets better! |
Cody limped one time... I watched him and kept him off it as much as possible.. he didn't whine or anything. and the next day he was walking fine. so i think maybe he strained or pulled a muscle.. or charlie horse??? good luck.. i hope your baby feels better soon :) |
Piper does it once in a while, but I usually rub his legs for a while, and then he's ok. If it's persistent I agree I'd call the vet. |
I hope he is feeling better keep us posted |
I had to leave him at the vet...they were booked today and so they had to have him seen between appointments and if they have to do an xray they may have to sedate him to get a clear picture:( He was still limping this morning and a couple times he did lift his leg and cry...so I got him in this morning...just waiting to hear back from the vet...please keep him in your thoughts... |
This happened to Gracie a couple of times when she was a puppy. We thought she might have landed wrong running down the stairs or something. In puppy school, I learned that puppies get growing pains just like people do, especially the larger breed dogs. I took Gracie to the vet who found nothing wrong, and suggested it might be either a strain or growing pains. Each time Gracie was back to normal within a couple of days. I would not worry too much as long as your baby is putting weight on its leg and there is no obvious sign of injury. Hope baby feels better soon! |
Toe nail I had this happen and didn't see anything wrong... then I realized that part of her toenail had caught on something... carpet maybe and ripped off... but it looked fine until you really examined it.... just a part was in the quick. |
Did you ever find out what the problem was? |
My 8 mon. Old lil yorkie girl last week tried jumping on my bed and missed and i guess landed wrong back down on her back leg.and once in a while she will limp on it.i dont think its broke but something must be tho. Right? |

I would take her in for an x-ray, it might be a hairline fracture, or her knee could be popping out. Best of luck. |
