Should I be concerned??? (Beware this is LONG &GROSS) Bernie's been having really smelly stinkers lately:( , and he's leaving accidental "presents" all over the house. I've been trying to work out the cause. If you know his story, you know he's got neurological issues that have caused some incontinence (both kinds). Anyway, because of this we are VERY careful with his diet. With the help of our vet we have found a food that seems to do well for him and make it possible for him to control his bm's (as long as he gets lots of opportunity to go outside). I know that a change in food still causes problems, because a couple of months ago he got into Kirby's food. Poo was flying for days:eek: Anyway, I just figured out he's been eating kitty poo!   My cat is, for the most part, and indoor cat. He occasionally gets out (through some kitty magic he possesses). So, goodness know what he gets into on those forays. Plus we live in a very old house and he's a very good mouser. Could the cat poo be causing Bernie's recent "issues"? Is a trip to the vet in order, or at the very least, should I gather up his most recent "droppings" to be analyzed? His poo eating days are over, I've taken care of that. What do you think? |
Admin, sorry don't mean to bump this. I just realized I placed it in the wrong forum. Sorry, I'll understand if you move it. I'm just so worried about my Bernie Bear.:( |
Oh, I feel so badly for both of you! Cat poo eating is a real pain bc you can't give SEP (Solid Gold's Stop Eating Poop) to cats. But, you could sprinkle some meat tenderizer on your cat's poo, that may help. |
Thanks! I figured out how he is getting it, and I "blocked his access" :) But, do you think that's what's causing the upset stomach??? |
It probably is what's causing the stomach upset. A couple of years ago, a friend's male yorkie became very ill from eating cat poo. Beau was hospitalized 3 days because of it:eek: Since you've blocked his access, your baby's problems should resolve themselves quickly since he'll no longer be able to get to his "fix" of cat poo:p |
I'm sorry about Bernie:( I would go get the poo analyzed at the vet, it could be anything |

It probably is the cat poo. If it eases your mind I'd bring a sample in, or see if it stops now that the cat poo thing has been resolved. |
Oh, poor Bernie! Tink says she's never had a cat poo before but bets she'd like it!:D I say I'm with you Judy, Disgusting and scary! I think I'd follow the OPs advice and get Bernie's poo tested just as a matter of good course. These little furpeople can get so sick. |
I wouldn't take him to the vet just vet. its most likely the cat poop that is causing the problems. Since you've blocked his access to the box i'd wait a few days. If he starts having diarrhea or something else starts up, then i would take him in. Is your kitty on a monthly dewormer? if not, then i would take a sample of bernies poop to the vet to make sure he hasn't picked up anything from eating the cat poop. The only reason i say this is because your cat is a mouser. |
Thanks for the advice everybody. He seems absolutely fine in EVERY OTHER way. I'm going to give it until Monday, then if no improvement I'll be taking a sample to the vet in the am. |
