Encephalitis I found out yesterday that my 4 year old Yorkie has a disease that the breed seems to be predisposed to (did not know this) - encephalitis necrotizing leucoencephalitis - and would like as much info as I can get. Has anyone dealt with this disease? |
I dont know anything about it but i hope you get all the info you need. Good luck to you and your baby |
That's terrible. I know nothing about it but I hope a treatment will make him better. Welcome to YT. |
Dont know anything about that... What does it do? |
brain Did they explain that it is swelling of the brain. I don't know anything about that w/ puppies but my nephew had ensiphalytis (sp?) and that is what it did... cause a spike in body temp... swelling of the brain.... it was real bad. What did the vet say? |
I Can't be of any help either.. I just wanted to say Welcome to YT!! hope you get the information you need and your baby gets better! :) |
Tina was diagnosed with encephalitis when she had stroke like symptoms in April. We checked her into an animal hospital for 5 days and they put her on an IV and a steroid (prednizone). It is swelling on the brain. It was a very frightening situation but she eventually made about an 85% recovery. If you have specific questions feel free to pm me. It is a hard situation and not all pups make it through, but I've been there and will help you however I can. |
My 7-year-old, 3-pound rescue Yorkie had 2 seizures on Thurs night (6/27/08). This was completely unexpected; she had just gone on a short walk around the neighborhood and behaved normally. We took her to an after-hours emergency clinic and they recommended she see a neurologist. We are about 65 miles from UGA vet clinic and took her there. They did an MRI, spinal tap, and blood profile. The MRI showed inflammation in her brain. At this time, they do not know if the cause is viral, bacterial, or sterile inflammation. They seem to be leaning toward Yorkshire Necrotizing Encephalitis, but started her on antibiotics last night in case it is bacterial. Nothing I read gives me any hope for a positive prognosis, and the vets are reluctant to either. How is your baby? What was the diagnosis? I am terrified that we are going to lose her to this condition.... |
