RAW and changing diet I will officially start Abby on the pre-made raw from nature's variety. She is too picky with food and I have tried everything! Canidae, Innova, Merricks and Nature's Best, Royal Canine, etc... She is currently eating home cooked food and she is slowly not wanting to eat again. I have given her little piece of raw meat as i cut it up for cooking and she freaking gulps it down doesnt even freaking chew, LOL. And on top of that my friend has a Bull Mastiff (85lbs!) and tried feeding her raw (Chicken Drumstick) and her dog just looked the other way and was not interested. Yet Abby was sitting and STARING at the chicken and my friend let her smell and she was licking and trying to rip a piece off! But she didnt eat any because everytime I feed her chicken or turkey she vomit and get diahrrea. BUT I would like to know how I should start this. I have read on here that if you are feeding raw you should do it every other day being that mixing dog food and raw is not good. But since I feed home cooked food, would it make a difference? Secondly, should i do it gradually? Like 1/4 of the raw for 4 days and increase the proportion as it reached 100%? Please help, I just want her healthy. Plus I am going after work to buy Nature's Variety Medallions!:) |
I would advise just doing it, no mixing or fussing just a straight switch. But stick to only one type for a week or so before you try her on different ones. Just to make it a bit easier on her. Good luck, feel free to ask lots of questions, I hope it works out for you and Abby! :) |
Thank you. I needed to verify that. I remember reading it somewhere here but I tried looking for that same thing and I couldnt find it. My baby is only 2 lbs and 4oz (5 months) so if i just change it wont it upset her tummy and giver diahrrea? I do not want her to get sick and rush her to the vet. |
It could possibly give her a bit of diarrea at first, its hard to know really until you try it, most don't get any at all. If you like you could mix it with her homecooked but that might make it harder for her especially if you use grains in her food, depends on the dog. Just make sure you don't over feed her. |

Good luck....and don't over feed like I did. |
My Layla is a year old and 3 1/2 lbs is a very picky eater, I started her on NV 5 months ago and she loves it. I switch from Canidae dry. It never brother her tummy. I went straight from dry to Raw. Her favorite is Venison and Chicken/Turkey combo!! I did try the Lamb and Rabbit but they both were a no go's.............she did not like either. Good Luck |
