Itchy Skin My yorkie has two spots (one on her leg and one on her butt) that she knaws at all the time. They are now bald. I have never been able to find fleas or any sign of them. The skin is a normal pink color and looked fine except today it is dry and flaky looking and there is a tiny scab from her incessant biting. I have not changed her shampoo or conditioner or anything else for that matter. Anyone have any suggestions as to what can be causing this itcyness and any solutions to the problem? |
What is she eating..she maybe allergic to her food. Corn is a big negative in the food category. |
I am now having the same problem with 3 of my 4 yorkies! |
My pup has the same problem. Doc. put her on meds for ringworm and an antibiotic, plus benadryl. He did a skin scraping - no mites. Basically, we are treating for several things. Let me know what you find out. |
I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow so hopefully she can figure out what the problem is! |
Leg/paw biting is usually the cardinal sign of an allergy - what's her chow? :D |

For example, you'll see this on their page: Instinct Duck Meal & Turkey Meal Formula for Dogs is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profile for All Life Stages. :) |
I hope you can get help at the doctor. Let us know how she makes out. |
Itchy? My 3 yorkies were having same problem, I shaved around spot, tried the apple cider vinegar wash, then wiped with witch hazel, and applied Gold Bond medicated powder to keep them from licking/chewing. All better now and hair is growing back. With 4 dogs I often search here for home remedies before the vet, gets expensive w/4 Yorkies. Good Luck! I get lots of help from this site! |
What is in the apple cider vinegar wash? anything other than vinegar? |
Acv Used apple cider vinegar to wash shaved area, then rinse with witchhazel, and then apply Gold Bond medicated powder to keep from licking . Got it off of here! Cured up hotspots right away, within 48 hrs. |
My Yorkie had the same problem and i went to Petsmart and found a shampoo for itchy skin(I don't remember the brand but it was a green and white bottle). I also bought a lotion for itchy skin that was the same brand and came in a spray bottle. These worked immediately and he stopped biting his spots and started growing his hair back. |
