coughing for two weeks My puppy is 10 weeks old. He has had a cough for two weeks. The vet put him on antibiotic twice a day. He has only 2 days left of the med, but is still coughing. First of all, the vet never really told us what was wrong. I do not think it could be kennel cough because he has not been exposed to any other dogs. Has anyone had a dog with a cough? Bronchitis? |
Hi and Welcome to yt, I would call your vet and let him know, Maybe he would want to do more test, I hope he is better soon:) |
cough ok... what is the incabation for kennel cough because if he is only 10wks... and he has had the cough 2 wks... since 8 wks... how early did you get him? I would think that he probably picked it up at the breeder... even if you got him as early as six weeks... I bet it might not show up til 8.... check on that. |
Kennel cough can easily turn into pneumonia, especially in a young pup. Definitely call your vet and let him know your pup isn't any better. And don't let them give ANY shots until he is completely well. You also might want to begin checking ingredients in his food. It could also be allergies contributing to it. Especially be on the lookout for corn additives as many Yorkies are prone to this allergy. And, welcome to YT!!!!!! |
Mine had bronchitis and then a week later upper respiratory infections. ?? It cost me $150 just for those two visits and an antibiotic. They are better now and don't cough as much as they did. They will cough maybe once every couple of days so, I guess its just the weather. My pups didn't stop constantly coughing til about 3-4 days after they finished the antibiotic. Good luck! |
Sounds like kennel cough. When I got Cali at 9 weeks she had kennel cough and gave it to me older pom. They literally had it for over 3 months. 3 rounds of antibiotics and it finally went away. I just had her lungs checked by the vet a few times to make sure she wasn't developing pneumonia. I would definately call the vet back for a follow up. |
