Where does canned food fit in? The vet sent home some special canned food for Max while he's recovering and it got me to thinking about where canned food fits in a normal diet. Right now I'm feeding Blue but that's just because I didn't have time to order food online and that was the best PetSmart had. When it's gone I'm going to start feeding Orijen. Does a healthy young dog benefit any from canned food in addition to their normal kibble, or is it unnecessary? |
Its not needed if they are eating their kibble. However mine love it and I give it to them for breakfast. There is no harm in giving it and its actually less processed than kibble |

Dryed foods is better then any canned food..especially for yorkies as it helps keep there teeth clean, then ends up saving you money. less teeth cleaning bills. just my opinion...pooh's mum |
Kibble in no way helps to clean their teeth. It would be like us eating crackers and hoping they'd clean our teeth. With both kibble and canned, teeth need to be brushed regularly to prevent tarter build-up. Kibble is so overprocessed and loses a lot of nutrients because of it. Canned food is less processed and contains a lot of moisture which is a lot better for them. The key is though to get a PREMIUM canned food. Lacy's on a raw diet but my cats get half raw/half grain-free canned food. |
I use hills science diet td and it is for teeth...it sure helps my guys a lot...I was not saying what I did to get into a debate, just a post. I do not know what you even mean by kibble. sounds like walmart food.. pooh's mum |
pooh's mum, "kibble" is just a term used to describe dry dog food, regardless of brand. I don't see where Orijen makes a canned food. Any reccomendations for a good canned food? |
