Treats for potty is a defnite YES...at least in my opinion..I did this in the beginning and Maximus did excellent..I never even crated him and he hasn't had a pee accident in almsot 2 month...poop another story..but I am rewrding him with AWESOME treats when he make all his poo on the pad and so far 1 week of no poo accident..he doesn't even come to get a treat for pee anymore..lol..but if I see him in the act I will reward him..he is such a proker..lol...ever since learning the sit command he just comes over and sits...then is like "hmmmmmmm...do I get a treat now"..lol

I gave Bailey honey nut cheerios all the time when I was potty training... I would give it to him OUTSIDE as soon as he went,, WHen I started training him he would pee a little then want in ( for the treat) then finish peeing in the house!
SO I started giving the treat OUTSIDE... But he loves cheerios, sometimes I use KIX ( less sugar) But, not like ONE cheerio has alot of sugar... the sugar quanity on the box is for one serving,, he doesnt eat a whole serving in a month!
But ya they are little and he likes em, and cheap! Ive even put em in the freezer so they dont get stale,, and I think he likes em better when they are cold. :)

Linus has gotten 100 times better since we started giving him treats after he goes potty. He does the "fake potty" thing sometimes, and looks at me after he lifts his leg like "Where's my treat?" but he's grown out of that since we have monitored his potty. He also is trained to a pee pad and not outside so it's really easy to tell if he goes or not.

I think they would be a good healthy snack or treat. I'm going to try it.

LOL!! That's Olivia! She's been known to squeeze out a drop for a cheerio!

I would say that it's okay, actually. We rewarded her every time we caught her going on her pad when we first got her. Once I was pretty sure she knew where she should go, I began alternating praise with treats when she went on the pads. Now, we're pretty much just praising her, with the occasional treat thrown in. She is just as excited to get praise and hugs, though. "Knock on wood", but I don't think I've had to clean a mess in two days, now that I think of it!!

We do the treat thing for potty too. It has made a huge difference. Now that he has the whole pee thing down I only give him a treat every other pee, the other times I give him kisses and pets.

But poo on the other hand, he if he goes on the pad he gets LUNCH MEAT!! As soon as we started this it was like night and day. He goes on the pad all the time now. It is the ONLY way he gets lunch meat. And he looooves lunch meat. Once he is better trained with number 2 the lunch meat will taper off until he doesn't get anything.

WOW. I am going food shopping tonight and I will definately get some cherrios. I can't wait to use them with the potty pads. Roxy pees on them all the time and for the most part she poops there too, occasionaly she will go where ever (i dunno why). Now TJ, will pee on the pad 50% of the time (10% of that is half on and half off), and the other 50% he pees ANYWHERE he feels like...and poop is NEVER on the pad. He likes to poop in privacy (corners, under desks, behind the couch, etc.) So I CAN'T WAIT to try using this trick to get them in order! And OH, I can use the cherrios in training them to walk on a lease too...:-) :-) :-)

sounds like an inexpensive treat! I'll have to try it!

Apple & Lil Bit LOVE the Honey Nut Cheerios.......they like plain cheerios, too, but I get the Honey Nut because hubby will eat a bowl or two.....so they don't end up getting stale.

I also have borrowed a small handful of Fruit Loops from the grand-kids....Apple & Lil Bit REALLY like those days!!!!!

Last week we were at the Outlet Mall, practicing walking on the leash and acting normal around strangers....I had run out of everything.......except small greenies...and I did not want to have to sit for 45 minutes for them to chew them up.......so I broke a few stick pretzels into tiny bites and also grabbed a small handfull of 'baked Goldfish'......I think I may have found a "new favorite"!!!!!!!!!

YUM !!!!!!!

Another little treat for the little ones, suggested by our breeder and approved by our vet, is Honeycomb Cereal. Toto was 16 weeks when we brought her home and we would break the Honeycomb into 4 pieces and gave her the equivilent of about 4 or 5 a day. This actually gave her 16 to 20 little treats a day. She loved it and would do just about anything for that tiny little piece of cereal!! ;)

I feel obligated to give the adverse opinion to cherios since it hasn't been done yet. I eat them every morning and just looked at the ingredients and the main ingredients are oat, corn, sugar, and salt. Many yorkies can be allergic to corn, so if your pup starts itching a lot it is a sign of a corn allergy. I also don't believe that sugar and salt are good in excess. If you are going to use cherios, please only give a couple as they aren't the most healthy treat. I've also read that nuts are not good for dogs, so I would avoid honey nut cherios as well.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I wanted to give people both sides of the issue.
