Nutri Cal question I want to start giving Gino and Bianca a little of this... And I told my Mom she should give it to her shih tzus because they are SUCH picky eaters. They have hardly eaten in 3 days. She has tried almost every kind of food for them in the past 6 months. They dont like anything. She mixes some cottage cheese in the food, and they pick it out and wat just that. So my question is... I notice its made in China. Should we not get it? thanks for all your suggestions and comments about it. :)Stacy |
Actually I am adding this on because now I discovered one kind is made buy Tomlyn and one by Evsco..is one better than the other? |
Could I ask why you want to use this? I understand the not eating in three days thing but what is wrong with your doggies that they need this? Are they puppies? |
yes Gino is a puppy. My moms dogs dont eat much. I heard it is a good supplement for puppies and picky eaters. |
It is definately something that you don't want to overdo. It is good for puppies who aren't eating but for puppies who are, it is probably not necessary. How often does your puppy eat? Is he hypoglycemic? I have just read before that it is empty calories. It is basically glorified sugar something or other and I wouldn't personally give it unless I had to. I am sure other people have other opinions though... |

any opinions? |

The only other time it's recommended is when you first take a puppy home from the breeder - and the puppy is stressed (therefore, more prone to blood sugar dropouts), it can help to give the puppy Nutrical at bedtime (bc of the long time btwn feedings) - and first thing in the morning IF the puppy seems "shaky". It is not meant for helping picky eaters - and I'm not sure how it would help that in any way....? What exactly are you trying to "supplement" - bc there may be some really great recommendations other than Nutrical (and maybe easier to find for you). :D |
thanks....that cleared it up. They just hardly eat. Mom's dogs. Should she put Missing LInk in their food? But the thing is they hardly eat their food anyway. Her husband has tried everything. The soft foods, the sauces to put on the food, all diff varieties of good solid food, everything. She is at her wits end with them. |
Has she tried mixing some cooked chicken or cottage cheese in their food to get them to eat |

Assuming a kibble, I'd be curious to know what she's tried. I'd recommend a good, premium kibble - Canidae, Orijen (LOVE this one, but can be hard to find), Innova, Evangers, Natures Variety, Wellness. Has she tried those? Or, is she mostly trying foods from Petsmart and the like? |

yes and they pick that out of the food and eat just that! |

i brought some samples i got of Artemis (which my two LOVE) and they wouldnt touch it! I will tell her about the other brands you suggested. She has tried all diff varieties at petsmart, they wont touch Nutro. (which mine love as well) or purina pro plan, hills, blue buffalo..... |
The foods I mentioned can be found at premium pet stores, feed stores, and online. She could try sprinkling some low-sodium chicken or beef broth on a kibble, but I don't know if she wants to go down that road.... |
ok i sent a link to her from petfooddirect.com thanks so much :) |

to the original poster here is what Nutri Cal is Vitamin A, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Vitamin b1, B2, B6, B12, Calcium, Iron, Magnesea, Iodine, Corn syrup, Sojaoil, fishoil, Herbs, Methylcellulose, gelatin and water. HOW on earth can this be a sugary thing that is not good. My pomeranian is ALIVE TODAY as a result of NutriCal, had it not been for this he would not have made it thru some rough times of not eating, it actually BOOSTS the appetite. it is highly recommended for picky eaters. While you should not ONLY feed your dog this, for the dog that is a picky eater as my Pomeranian I regularly supliment him with this. He has sustained his life with this during the days of not wanting to eat. So please do not mislead the original poster. If I were you, I will continue to feed the baby the Nutrical and mine is made overseas and NOT CHINA. What I used to do it take a bit in a syringe and add a bit of water to it as my Pom was also not wanting water. Right now he is getting nutrical as he is teething and not wanting to eat. |
