how much food I went and got Banjo today! I got several sweaters, warm blankets, ect- it was 50+ out- he panted all the way home-he weighs about 1 1/2 lb! The breeder said he'd ate 30 min before I got there- 2 hour drive-he acted like he had never ate before- I fed him 1/4 c-but he wanted more in a little bit- i fed him about 6-8 more pieces- about 30 min later- he wanted more- I don't want to over feed him- so approx what amount should i feed a 1 1/2 chorkie!!!! I was guessing about 1/4 cup every 2-3 hours!Think he likes to eat! He is really cute- was really good- is sleeping like a rock right now- going to vet in AM He has short legs- and a thick black/gold coat! I don't want to over or under feed him- he attacks food! |
Sorry, I don't have an answer for you; just wanted to say congrats and I'm sure your vet will know and you can ask him when you go tomorrow. I've been under the impression dogs will stop eating when they are full ?? Don't take my word on that, I may be wrong. I free feed my dogs and they usually just eat late at night and early in the morning; they snack on it throughout the day also. I'm sure someone on here will know. Good luck! |
Thanks- I just worry about low blood sugar-esp during the night! My friend said her vet said to feed her dog a certain amout or he would eat himself to death! So I guess they can! I usually free feed too- but never had one this small! Thanks for the reply! |
Have you figured out how much he should be getting yet? If you are feeding kibble you can just read the side of the bag but that is only a rough estimate. |
I free feed up until around 5:00 p.m then the food comes up..she always has food available to her up until that time...water is always available.. |
Thanks- I just give him small amounts 4-6 times a day1 hr is doing ok-sleeping ,eating, playing and pooping!LOL |
